It runs on defrost because that is the quickest way to remove the moisture from the air when defrosting.

There is no factory designed setting for making sure the seals stay supple.
It is a side effect from the system working to remove moisture.

And it’s a good thing, as lots of guys would never run their A/C the few minutes a month it needs to keep the seals alive.


Guys who live where they never need defrost have to remember to use the A/C a few minutes every month or they experience premature seal death.

I have to remember to hit the O/D button and the rear sensor off buttons everytime I jump into my truck when I pull a trailer in town. I so use to pushing the first button from the previous vehicle, that hitting both when cranking up is almost second nature for me. Don't worry, you will eventually get use to it. In a way, I'm glad that they automatically default back to on when I crank up.
