Makes welding just that much more difficult, and I can't even get someone to do a basic weld on it in the first place (6:20 PM)

Just got back in from wrapping it up, I used a wide pipe clamp with a small rubber notch insert to go inside the crack, the clamps inner lining is rubber. I then duct taped around that for added peace of mind. This won't prevent flexing so much as it will prevent debris like sand from getting in there. (8:16 PM)

I really don't know how the rack could fall apart as it sits right now, it's just hard to fathom. (10:18 PM)

And for all you haters, I had it welded...do I have your blessing to attend the pismo meet. (1:56 AM)
How did "they" weld those two different metals? Who is the "they" since no one would do it earlier? Interesting that after all day it got "welded" so quickly. I'm sure there are some that will put all this together and say the claim to have welded it was just to get everyone off Josiah's back for driving a dangerous vehicle, and it's going (or gone) to Pismo with a dangerously broken front end held together with clamps and duct tape. I guess the only way to shut them up would be pics of the weld . . . . . How about it Josiah? I'd like to see that weld and would be interested to know if it held up on the trip.

It'd really suck if the 'weld' broke and you lost control especially after you put all that money into your truck. .

Good luck getting warranty to cover it when you pull it with a 6 inch lift, truck all scratched up, 37 inch tires, and a taped and welded rack and pinion. "No sir, I don't abuse my truck."

I hope everything works out, but I think Josiah is looking at it all wrong. You won't just be making some family rich when they sue you and your insurance company. You will be going to jail when that family's insurance inspector looks under the truck and sees it modified, welded and duct taped. Manslaughter makes you bubba's best friend and when you get out from that you may have wages garnished from the civil suit. Can you see the downward spiral of your life happening.
Just get it fixed the right way brother and have peace of mind, we live in a sue happy culture. Good Luck!!

This thread is all the proof a person needs to support the argument of why you don't buy a used 4x4!

Most of the time, I would say you would be safe buying a used 4x4 only because most of the ones around here rarely get off road, if at all.

But, after reading this thread and some of the others on this and other websites, I have to agree. I don't think I will be buying one used again.

You'd be an idiot to purchase a used 4WD. Especially from the typical male who seems like he loves adventure. Now a 4WD from me who is pavement pusher would be a wise buy.

I was told by a Fabtech tech. that tha Ford rack system was JUNK and I should not run anything bigger than a 315. He told me it was like they made it out of recycled cans.

Then why do they make lifts to clear tires bigger than that for these trucks
