Toyo Open Country A/T for 18s

I wrote Toyo an Email asking for a status update on the Toyo Open Country
A/T LT275/65R18 tire release date. They replied with the following:

I see that production started on April 6 but I see that none are on order at
this time. Did you place an order with your dealer?

Sincerely,
Ron Golab.
Toyo Tire Canada Inc.

Just thought I would post for those that have been looking for these.

I didn't realize they were going to make them in that size. Good to know.

They should have started making either a 285/65 or a 295/65. We need some options for the factory 18" Wheels. Maybe a 285/70 would be a good size also.

Did anyone ever find out about the Toyo AT for stock 18" Les Schwab (and Toyo's web site) says the tire is only for an 8 - 8.5 width wheel application. Les Schwab is telling me that they won't warranty the tires if I put them on my stock 7.5" lariat rims.

I searched and did a little reading...but just curious what others experience is.

Thanks!
Pete

Hello Pete150,

I almost missed this post. Toyo does not make the stock Toyo Open Country A/T LT275/65R18 tire size yet. I had ordred mine 12 weeks ago because they told me they were going to start making them. I wrote Toyo this week and here is what they told me:

My apologies but your dealer is correct. We do not have stock in transit so our tires expected have not been made as promised. If this is the case then
we will not have product for at least 6 to 8 more weeks. Our biggest concern
is your safety and do not want you to compromise this by waiting for our
tires. My suggestion to you is to buy another brand for now. I hope that we
can serve you better as we can catch up to world demand for this product.
My Ford dealer has the stock Goodyears AT/s for 100 buck per tire cheaper than all the other tire dealers around here, so I will go with those again and maybe try for the Toyos again next year.

How are the Goodyear AT/s compared to the Rugged Trail T/A's? I have the stock BF Goodrich Rugged trails. I like the ride and quiet, but they are too soft and are almost to the wear bars at 22k miles.

I have had toyos on all my other truck and they are great. What have you heard on the goodyear AT/s?

Thanks for your reply!

Pete

My truck came with the Goodyear AT/S's, they have 32,000 miles on them and are a little less than 1/2 tread. I was actually going to get another set of them and mount them on my "summer rims" but then desided to put in the leveling kit and got bigger Nittos. I am now going to use the stock wheels and AT/S's for my winter set, I would buy the AT/S's again in a heart beat. They are a very good tire.

Might want to look on Ebay for the AT/S's, I have seen almost brand new (1000 miles or less) sets of 4 go for 500 shipped. Not too bad when our local Goodyear dealer wants $230/tire for them.

My truck came with the Goodyear Wrangler AT/s stock. They are alright, I think they are better than the Rugged Trail. They are wearing well. I have 60,000 km's (37,000 miles) and they are at 9/32 tread left. I have had the rugged trail tires on my old Sport Trac and they did not provide as great a traction as the Toyo Open Country A/T's did. The Goodyears handled well in snow rain and as well as can be expected from an A/T tire in muddy conditions. I was really looking forward to trying out the Toyos on the F150 as I loved them on my Sport Tracs.

Edit: Don't hesitate to call your Ford dealer for a price on them. I was being quoted between 400 and 425 cnd installed with all costs per tire by tire dealers. My Ford dealer quoted me 306 cnd per tire installed with all costs included.
