Gearhead hit it dead on, but in your confusion, what errors are fixed by the tuner that haven't already been addressed by a factory PCM reflash?

NO manufacturer is going to give you a vehicle that is tuned to the peak of it's parts' potential because of warranty issues.

Factory tune is a happy medium at best. Pushing the envelope with an aftermarket tuner speeds the wear rate on parts.

Changing A/F ratios and timing isn't exactly like bolting on a cat-back exhaust system. That's like installing a levelling kit and expecting them to warranty the ball joints when they go out.

Regardless of what you think, these things are designed as a package to give years of dependable service knowing that the average Joe F150 driver isn't going to take care of maintenance like he's supposed to. Do you guys think these replacement warranty parts fall off the free parts tree somewhere?

If what those tuners do for you was the best thing for the vehicle and the everyday driver, they would all come from the factory tweaked out.

Sounds alot like the reason I have sworn off General Motors products. I had a truck with front susension/braking issues.

Sorry to hear of your poor treatment. I have had nothing short of outstanding treatment and service.

Good luck with your future service.

In regards to tuners and their effects on your warranty, IMO, it's not really a big deal with a gas engine. Legally, a warranty claim can't be denied unless the dealer/manufacturer has some pretty solid proof that whatever the modification caused the failure in question. I don't feel that these tuners offer enough of a performance gain to really jepardize anything in the powertrain in a gas engine. The "warranty voided" thing is a CYA tactic, or just a lame excuse from dealers that don't want to have anything to do with you or your truck for reasons that are beyond the scope of this thread.

Now, a diesel, on the other hand...

Thought I'd throw my .02 in...

After owning nothing but fords for as long as I can remember I've learned that there are always going to be problems every once in a while. Having said that I have found the most efective way to get thing taken care of...

Say your problems VERY loudly in the service drive and refuse to be ushered into the office to discuss things. the line " What are you trying to hide from the rest of your customers" works wonders. If you happen to park the vehicle in the middle of the drive and haven't handed over the keys yet seems to help a little as well

Well, I did my trip to Western NC and must say my truck performed admirably. Night & day difference from the **** poor job it did on the same route last year. With nothing other than an AF1 & Gibson SI/SO my truck got 14.5 towing a 2600lb (give or take a few hundred) trailer. I'm still not happy the way the truck takes to hills whilst towing but I think when I get my XCALII updated & re-installed that it will solve that.

Once more, if you haven't received the dealer re-flash, get it & get it now. If you have to, make something up and get it done. My truck now runs better than it did WITH the XCALII last year. Can't wait to plug back in the 93 Max Perf tune...

KC-10 FE out...
