scratch just happened

any tips on repairing a scratch. i was loading part of a fence into the bed from the side and when i dropped it in the metal latch caught part of the back of the cab where the cab starts turning in at the angle. i can feel it when i run my finger over it....about 4-6" long.....never saw it coming ;(

If it's deep enough to feel with a fingernail, it ain't gonna come out. RP and several others around here can give you better advice than I can about going about fixing or camoflaging it somewhat.

It will come out, but its not for the inexperienced to try. When my car got scratched at the dealer I watched them fix it. They took touch up paint just mixed up, put it on the scratch and used a real buffer to "melt" the existing paint into the scratch, but you have to be careful doing it. I have never tried it though. The scraches were obvious from 10 foot, and he got them to where you couldn't even feel them let alone see them. This was on a torch red mustang, so close to the same color as your truck.

Be proud of the scratches. People will know you actually use your truck for something

i had just put the prodigy back in to pick up a new travel trailer.....taking the truck to work to dump the old fence in a dumpster......i just had to walk away before i did break something else...and if you saw it last year, look in my folder and you will see it already had enough scratches to last a lifetime!
and to think, just cleaned it all up a few days ago, the pollen was so thick it probably would have protected the paint! LOL thanks guys.

see the fence in the background.....that is what i removed.

Scratch???

that's a scratch...

I borrowed some good stuff. Got it so it was less visible. That's about all you can hope for.

Have no clue who keyed it, but
What I used...

1st) Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound (applied and removed by hand)

2nd) Hi-Temp prodcuts HT-61 Light Power Cut Leveler
Applied w/ a 7" high speed orbital w/ wool pad.

3rd) Meguiars #3 machine polish glaze. This restored the finish and removed the swirl marks.
Applied w/ the 7" high speed orbital, cotton pad.

4th) Turtle Wax. I was out of my Meguiars NXT.

Besides, a few dings and scratches add character. I bought my truck to use it as a truck - I keep telling myself that and it makes it easier for me to justify when my truck looks like total crap. :o
