Big OH NO! Need your help ASAP - NEED NEW DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT!
Hey Guys,
So I did the HID retrofit a month or so ago. Anyhow, I had a problem with the way the headlights were sealed and had some water seepage.
Well I took the headlights apart and were cleaning them and resealing them. Somehow I have wiped part of the "chrome" finish on the driver's side headlight off, leaving a 1 inch by 1 inch black spot.
I've spent way too much time and money on these headlights to just live with it.
SO I NEED YOUR HELP. Does anyone work at a dealership or have a damaged F150 04-06 Driver's side headlight that at least has the chrome inside in flawless condition?
I can't really afford to spend much on it, so it's probably going to need to be a headlight that is meeting the scrap heap or if you just have one sitting around that you don't need and are willing to part with for under $40 plus shipping.
Please help me out here as I really want to get this done ASAP.
Thanks again fellas,
Duke

Keep an eye over at Ebay. That's where I find anything I need.
What were you using to have the chrome finish wipe off?

The big problem was I was trying to remove a water spot at the bottom below the big headlight opening. I didn't have the auto glass cleaner next to me and in a moment of being stupid/lazy/tired; I used a little spit on the rag and wiped the water spot right off. Of course a dimed size piece of chrome came off too.
I kind of laugh now, my spit removes chrome. Anyhow, just becareful if you ever encounter those chrome shrouds. They are VERY THINLY done and just the slightest pressure and liquid will ruin it.

Duke,
If you don't mind me asking what did you use in order to reseal your headlights. Where did you purchase it from? I'm almost ready to reseal mine so just curious on what is good to use. Thanks

I used some Windex and water through the headlight hole and shook vigorously once on my '97.... $75 later (and that was from a salvage yard) I had learned my lesson.
The chrome inside a headlight is hit or miss on it's adhesion to the plastic from what I've seen since. Some guys can nearly get away with sanding on the things without any problem. I think it may have something to do with the amount of heat that the chrome and plastic has seen.

On re-sealing the headlights:
I'm using a butyl rubber found at Nissan/Infiniti dealerships. This is used to reseal taillights that they have to work on. They get boxes of this stuff for free with each headlight from the manufacturer and if you ask the parts guy if they have any laying around you could get some for free.
Or you can just pay for it. It's about $30 and less. I'll be using that along with some silicone sealant found at Home Depot to create a water tight seal that won't come loose with high temperatures.
