My new boat has surge brakes on it. I found a connector that should work for the 7-way (truck) to 5-way (trailer). On the 7-way on the truck is there a pin for power coming from the reverse lights. Just want to make sure I don't have to do any splicing or anything.

 

Don't know for sure, it should with the rv plug. Here is a link for the plug diagram you can use a test light to make sure.

Where were you able to find a 7 to 5 way connector? I havent been able to find one for my boat with surge breaks.. Everytime i want to back up i have been getting out and pulling the wiring out and stick turing it so i can stick the surge break pin into the truck. (As i only have a 4 way connector)

Surge brakes are not the issue. Surge actuated DISC brakes are. Surge actuated DRUM brakes only need a flat 4 connector. Drum brakes on a trailer do not have enough stopping force in reverse to stop your vehicle. Disc brakes do and therefore require a solenoid to literally block the trailer brake line when you back up. That's why the blue wire (hooked to your backup lights) is used as the 5th wire on a flat 5 connector. Yes, your 7 pin connector from the factory Class III Towing Package has that.

So then just getting the 7-5way adapter should allow me to back up without the brakes engaging. This is on a Ranger boat trailer by the way. I also have a brake controller for another trailer that I pull with e-brakes on it. The boat trailer just has surge brakes. Not sure if they are drum or disc.
