Non servicable driveshaft?
Non servicable driveshaft?
I read on another forum that the 04 F150 has a non servicable driveshaft. They said that you had to replace the driveshaft when the u joins wear out. I sure hope this is not the case. That would cost a fortune. What next?
Can anyone substantiate this info?

That's what I've heard. Although I've seen people take "non servicable" U-joints and service the hell out of 'em, putting aftermarket U-joints in. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
Absolutely true. When I put the 6" lift on, I had new driveshafts (front and rear) built with greaseable u-joints. Apparently, Ford hopes the driveshaft will last until the warranty has expired. A real good bet for them; but, not so good for us.

Woah, drive shafts are not replaceable and need to be replaced at 6 or 7 years???
How much is a new drive shaft? It really has to be replaced every 6 or 7 years?
Geese, that means I really should get rid of this truck before then.
That's really really bad news. Please, somebody confirm (who has knowledge) that they only last 6 to 7 years and how much they cost.

If it makes some of you feel any better, as far as I know I've still got the original U-joints in my '97 F250 LD. Almost ten years and 170K+ miles old, and they're fine. I don't expect to have to mess with the joints in my '04 for at least that long.
They are just non servicable. It means that you can't grease them. You can replace the u joints with greasable ones if you wish. Just like fords front ends. They are called lifetime parts or something. THey are non servecable but you can replace them. Like ball joints and stuff.
