Question Questions Before P.I.E. Install

Ok, I am hoping to finally install my P.I.E. this weekend. Just a couple quick questions. I have searched and seen most of the P.I.E. threads, but I just need a couple things cleared up or confirmed...

1. For those of you with the front bench seat; the dual cup holder and ash tray pulls out from under the cigarette lighter. Do I just give that a little extra firm tug to get it completely out of the dash so I can begin removing the faceplate? No buttons, screws, clips, lift angles, etc?

2. The switched on/off wire inside the dash is green and white, right? And there's only one? I thought there was a picture somewhere. If anyone has it, can they please post it? (I'm not connecting the P.I.E. to this wire. I'm connecting the XM radio power to it.)

3. Did most of you guys, when connecting the wires together, just remove the insulation from the portion of the wire where you were going to make the connection and twist it around? Or did you completely cut the wire and twist them all together?

4. Will I need to get to this P.I.E. box, once installed? Should I mount it in any specific easy access place?

5. What's an average estimated time of installation?

If anyone has any other helpful hints for me, they'd be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Guigster- you are funny bro, you've been asking PIE questions for months!

I don't have the bench so I can't help you on question 1

2. You want to use a splice connector (radio shack) and tap the Green w/ Yellow striped wire in your stock radio harness. Not the black and white.

3. Go buy some splice connectors, if you don't go buy them, only strip the jacket off the wire - DO NOT cut it.

4. You should tie wrap the PIE inside your huge area behind the panel you take off. You may need to get to it again sometime in the future. It has a level adjustment on it. Adjust that to your liking before you mount it.

5. Took me about 15mins to install - PIEce of cake - no pun intended....

PS - You'll need to ground the PIE also

Thanks Doo. Yes I do ask a ton of questions. It's my indecisiveness and lack of technical skill/knowledge that makes me take forever to make a decision and then go through with it. I have a big fear of screwing it up and making it worse. Just think, once I install this I can begin on the couple months of tire questions.

Don't fear, this truck is the easiest vehicle for getting at the stereo, etc that I've ever seen. You will have no problem.

Here is a pic from IROC IT's gallery of him tapping into the switched power (so it will go off when you open the door, just like your stereo)

Any good chassis ground will do, you can screw it into any of the metal thats back there after crimping a lug on the end of the PIE ground or you can tap into the cig lighter ground, some would argue against that but it works just fine.

Another thing - Going from the FM modulator to a PIE is night and day. That lil box is incredible - crystal clear CD quality sound! You'll have a big *** smile on your face when you first listen

I hope so. I first thought the FM modulator was good. But I have grown tired of not being able to blast it super-loud. And also the so-so sound. I had a CD (Tool - Aenima) in today and it sounded great. So I'm looking foward to the P.I.E.

Angry

I am also growing tired of this forum timing me out and logging me off after I leave the computer for a few minutes.

Do you check the "remember me" box when you log in?

No, but I never had to. I did just now as I yet again re-logged in. I wasn't even off the site. I was browsing threads.

Thanks Steve. But I can't see the picture below. I assume it's similar to the splice connector that Doo mentioned? I'm not familiar w/ the splice connector. So if anyone is able to post a pic, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the help, I have been having a problem and I didn't think about it until this thread. I will have to check my ground, I probably won't get to it for a couple of weeks until I get back home. Thanks for the info.
