Question Question for those of you with the Ford 6 disc/mp3 player

I'm considering replacing my single disc CD player with the 6 disc/mp3 unit and I would like to know if this unit will play WMA files as well. I prefer WMA's because you can fit more onto a disc and the sound quality is better then mp3.

Thanks in advance for your input.

TBird - word of caution. Some builds of pickups have faulty 6 disk changers that will not play mps's properly. If you decide to buy off of Ebay....you will need to determine which build of truck it came out of.

Thanks for the heads up. I suspect that the earlier build dates would have the problem. It SHOULD have been resolved by the later part of the run. I guess I'll look into an FM modulated changer instead that way I can have the best of both worlds, mp3 and WMA.

I'd stay clear of the FM Modulators, buy a changer that supports WMA's and buy a PIE and play it through your AUX

If memory serves me correctly, they didn't have the mp3 compatible CD player until the 05 model year.

Mine is an 05 build and the CD player was all jacked up.

I took it out and replaced it with a Pioneer head unit. It was easier for me to replace the unit than have to take the truck into ford...have them send the unit off....then wait a week then install it back in.

As far as the TSB....you can probably search the 2004+ forum and find it somewhere.

I bought an '05 CD-6/MP3 player off EBay and it works fine. Strangely, it doesn't play some hard copy CDs right, but just about everything I've burned to MP3 works like a champ in it. Go figure.

I have had my '06 for 2 months now, and my player just started playing hard copy cd's funny. The MP3 disks played fine though, once I figured out which format it liked best.

Matters not, today I finally got around to installing the Kenwood KVT-915DVD that I had in my 02 Harley.

For those that may be curious, the stock Sirius antenna connector will fit on aftermarket Sirius boxes.

The MP3 changer works fine all around. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't play continuous tracks without a 1 second gap.

This seems to be something that Ford builds into their stereos for some reason. My single CD player does the same thing.

I have the 6 disc radio in my F-150, and I record WMA, and they play great!

You are making a WMA data CD, and finalizing it, and it plays, or are you using Windows Media Player with WMA files, and burning a CD ?

The plastic cover with the clip tab on it, did you have to cut that off ?

The SMB connector on the Sirius Factory rcvr had the square shroud around it, with the clip tab, to hold it into the factory rcvr.

The Starmate when I had it installed in the truck, the SMB connector did not have the clip tab cover on it, just the SMB connector on the end of the cable.

Also the Sirius Factory rcvr I got from the Visteon dist, did not have a strain relief end on the antenna wire, so if you have a PnP unit, and move it into the house, you would need to be careful not to mess up the end of the cable, plugging and un plugging it.
