Go to the magnaflow website and they have some good soundclips, like the 16612 which I am ordering. It sounds real good.

 

It's aleady ordered and arrived, but just a question of wanting to get the pipes bent a certain way.

I saw your other post as well.. congrats on your new exhaust as well.. let us know how it sounds when you get it on.. (the exhaust that is. hehe)

I don't think that the problem is that the pipes are made from stainless but how they were made. The Magnaflow system uses mandrel bent pipes. This means that the pipes are a constant cross section from start to finish. This yields better flow characteristics. Most exhaust shops use a die type tubing bender that crushes the inner portion of the bend. This causes a significant loss in cross sectional area at each bend. Which in turn is bad for flow characteristics. However, it is much cheaper to do. To mandrel bend tubes a shop would need to buy a mandrel for each bend that they wish to perform. I would suggest that you either find a local shop that can perform mandrel bends (good luck) or have your preferred shop just bend the pipes to the desired position. It looks like you just want the ends to kick over so the bend would be rather small you will lose some area, but not near as much as if you were to make a tighter bend.

P.s. Good choice on the Magnaflow I had one on my '03 and liked it much more than the flowmaster that was on my '01.

 

Late, but here are some sound clips of my DI/DO maggie. Its a bit distorted but you get the idea. I love the sound. Give your muffler 2 weeks before it breaks in. The sound will really change. At least mine did...

I totally agree on this one.... one of the reasons the better aftermarket ones work so well is the fact that they are Mandrel drawn tubing. If Ford had done that from the beginning, we may not have needed to go aftermarket. I have the 16612 on mine and love it! Very little drone at first, then after a few hundred miles I loosened the clamps to relieve the exhaust and retightened and it's great....

 

Thanks everyone for all the help. My original plan was to have it kick out the sides, so I wasn't worried about the factory hitch position.. but now looks like it's going straight out the back.. so I hope I don't have any problems... I hope... It's going ot get put on next week sometime. I'm still getting my foot off the gas after installing my CAI last weekend..
