One last check - Magnaflow 18" to 14"

I bought the Magnaflow dual exhaust kit for our truck: SI/DO - straight out the back.

But want a little more sound.

So I am about to pull the trigger on swapping out the 18" muffler that came with it for a 14".

Do any of you know if this will make a HUGE difference, or just a good difference?

There is this Dodge Ram in my parking lot that has the sweetest exhaust, and it makes me feel like my Magnaflow is on the wimpy side.

Any insight?

It won't be a BIG difference in sound. I would say only maybe 20% louder or so.

Well crap. I don't know if that's going to be worth the time and money.

How much of an increase in sound would it be to cut off my tailpipes going out the rear and dump it just after the muffler?

Assuming you would be keeping the same muffler, it would actually be a bit quieter. It would be a slightly deeper tone, but not louder. This is all speaking from experience as well.

Cut off your cats, you'll be amazed at the sound. It's very loud, louder than most chevy's, dodges and other trucks I pass, if not the same as the loudest out there. Then again I also have the loudest flowmaster muffler, if you're looking for sound dump that magnaflow. I did and soundwise it was a great decision, performance was another story. Below is a video of the exhaust, it sounds much louder than that but it's the best my camera's microphone can get of it.

Well my dad got a new Flow 40 series on his truck and that was too much noise for me, droning, etc. I was just looking to keep the same magnaflow tone, just more volume. But I guess I will keep it the same.....maybe I can do turn downs...those will increase my volume. But then in the end, I spent a ton of money for a magnaflow catback kit and all I am using is the muffler.

I'm tellin ya man, you won't see any increase in volume whatsoever with a turndown. Sure it will get louder in the cab, but that is it. Think about it, with a 4" tip, you have all that room for the exhaust to resonate out the back, hence, making it louder. Trust me I know this from experience, I've had two different F150's with dumps on both at first, then switching to tailpipes. If you want more noise, seriously, cut the last two cats off if you have a 2004. 05-06 you are out of luck, as you only have 2 cats instead of 4.

I think I am going to leave my current setup the way it is. Thanks for the input Texxx150. Sometimes I just get these ideas in my head and I need someone to knock me around a bit for it all to make sense.

I think there's a magnaflow 14" non oval that is smaller in diameter (maybe 1-2" wider than the exhaust pipe) than the oval shaped muffler

2004-2005 F-150's have 4 cats, late build 2005's have 2 larger cats to replace the 4 small cats we have.
