What's in your center console?

OK so I picked up my new truck with captains chairs and a center console yesterday. I open the lid to the center console and I think.... WTF is the Grand Canyon doing in the middle of my truck?

You can't put any pens or notepads down there, you'd never find them. CD cases would get crushed.

I read an old thread here about trying to organize that thing but no one had any good ideas at the time. Has anyone successfully tamed that thing?

On the lid there is a spot for two pens to be held. Or like me, one pen and one tire pressure gage. Also the lid hold a small box of kleenex. As far as the rest of it... good luck. Mine has turned into a storage area for "everything else".

lots of straws for my daughter (if I need to buy a drink on the go)

spare measuring tape, screwdriver, vise-grips

calculator, pen

I keep my Maglite, tire gauge, a small pad of paper, and a few other things in there. I'm going to be putting my jumper cables and tow strap in there also as soon as I find the right size storage container to hold them.

Just to clarify, I think he is talking about the XLT onsole, and not the console on the flip seat....

That where i keep my pistol, binoculars, a couple boxes of shells, and some misc. crap.

I never knew that thing on the lid was for Kleenex. Learn something new everyday.

I like these "what's in your pockets" kind of threads, so here's what's in my flow through console;

Mapsco, small first aid kit, tape measure, gas reciepts, proof of insurance, surefire flashlight, Leatherman Wave, tin of mints, CD jewel cases, Glock, bottle koozie, plastic garbage bags, key ring with a bottle opener, Ipod interconnect cord and some other junk.

I think a set of tire chains would fit in there along with your tow strap and cables!

It cannot be tamed, before you begin losing personal belongings in there you should trade it for my center jump seat and two beaver skins.

I use mine as a trash can.

I did do a massive search for an organizer that will fit the inside. Case Logic has one that is close, but too big.

If somebody could find a small manufacturer to design and manufacture a soft case type organizer, they would make a fortune.

Any takers? I'm willing to put up some dough and my ideas.

Took one of the CaseLogic 12 slot hard plastic CD holders and cut it down to 6 with a Dremel. Mounted it in the flow-through. Still leaves room for tie down straps, radar detector and bunch of other junk.
