Just got done mounting tweeter..

Well I just got done dremeling out the tweeter whole and installed the crossover in the arm rest.. But its too dark to put in my truck so Im gonna wait until tomorrow.. My only concern was that the tweeter stuck out farther and now the grill wont sit in right. One of the pegs wont catch so it just sticks out a little. I can live with it that way.. Also with the crossovers in the arm rest... will the connectors for the doorlocks and mirrorhit the crossovers.... Other than that I cant wait to put them in tomorrow....

Yep...I added tweeters to the stock tweeter openings and then the grills didn't fit right. The tweeters actually had their own molded-in grill covering the dome...so, I had to remove the molded-in grill with a dremel (cutting wheel). After I removed it, the speaker grills snapped right into place. If your tweeters have their own grill...removing it may help the speaker grill fit right.

Also, if you only need a little bit of extra room for the grills to fit down and snap...you could use a dremel and remove just a little plastic from that back of the grill where it is interfering to make some room.

yeah I have alpine type R's with grills.. That seems like a logical solution.. I would be afraid of damaging the tweeter while cutting the grill off though...

I also have the Type R Tweeters and they did not fit so we took a small piece of metal and attached the tweeter to it then screwed one end of the metal tab to the backside of the door panel. I was actually able to bend it a bit to angle it more towards the driver/passenger and it works just fine.

Thats the same thing we did when we were installing mine. At first I was like hmmmm. But like you said its mounted firm and we actually bent the metal a bit to angle the tweeter a bit more towards me rather then str8 on towards the steering wheel.

problem solved...I just took the grill off from the tweeter...pair of needlenose pliers and a small screwdriver...

looks like everyone is getting the same speakers. I put mine in a couple weekends ago and of course had the same issue. I was going to try and work on the fix this weekend. Was thinking about cutting the plastic ford grille where the tweeter was interfering and then covering the entire grille in black or grey grille cloth. I don't like the perforated plastic look. This sounds much easier (removing the grille from the tweeter).

What size are those tweeters you guys are craming in? I was looking at a pair of 1" JL tweeters, I wonder if those would fit......
