WOW I found my MPG’s!

I’ve been hearing all the talk about how the new F-150 gets bad gas mileage.

I have a lead foot and have always accepted that I will not get good gas mileage.
But with prices of gas these days I need to put myself in check.

So I decided to check my truck and drive very conservative. My first tank of gas I saw 4+ gain in my MPG. This was without my Edge. Very light foot only had the RPM’s above 2200 to get on the freeway.

I could almost take a nap on the way to work it was so boring driving that way. But my truck seems to be running fine. Mixed city/highway 40/60 I’m getting 16.5mpg calculated.

Hook up my small Toybox and I’m lucky to see 10mpg’s.

Yes, I do about the same type driving, freeways and town, I get 16.5, even with a WOT or two. On the highway, driving 75 to 85, I get around 19. I am pleased with that. Not bad for a heavy vehicle with a 5.4.

I've said all along if one loses the heavy foot and keep RPMs under 2K when accelerating, these engines will deliver great mileage.

My SCrew FX4 seems to prefer an 88 octane coctail (Fill it up 50% with 87 octane and 50% with 89 octane). The "coctail" performs better than 87 or 89 octane alone.

I don't know if I could do that. My drive time would double.

I've always driven easy and I consistently get 14 mpg's around town and 16 if I mix in highway driving.

Acceptable mileage with a bonus... I have a beter chance of seeing my grandkids and not wiping a family out the road.

Drive safe ya'll!

My 35 miles to work took about 5 more minutes.

No traffic at the time I go to work also, No stop and go traffic to kill mpg's.

Well either your drive time may double or your fuel expenditures will probably hit the roof. Experts predict that we will see $3.50 per gallon here in Texas by the start of the summer travel season. Heck, last week gas prices jumped .20 in two days. We are now sitting at 2.499 for 87 octane.

If you don't mash the accelerator and let the electronic throttle control do its job, you may see significant gains in your mileage.

I've seen a best of almost 21 mpg all highway driving with an average speed of 60 mph. This is with the 5.4 too. I usually see 13-14 mpg around town. An added tonneau cover helped on the highway mileage by +1 mpg or so.

I installed the Edge last Wednesday and my gas mileage has gone to crap. I just cant stay out of the throttle. My truck had no passing gear what so ever, the engine would just rev but now it takes off.

I average 15.5 to 17 mpg on freeway and 13.7 to 15 mpg in the city...(5.4 with 3.73)....I'm content with it Obviously if anyone is looking for better mpg vehicle, they ought to stop by Honda and pick one of those Civic's.

I'd rather eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches before I'd drive a Honda!:o

Best tank I've gotten so far was 17mpg freeway, usually 12 around town. I just got my intake and exhaust installed though, so we'll see if that hurts/helps. I'm only at 2k miles though, so I'm probably not broke in yet. Anybody know when the engine can be said to be 'broke in' ? 5k miles?
