All 04's have 4 cats, some crazy number like 90% of the 05's have 4 cats (unless it's a late build, then it has 2 cats, the other 10%), and the 06's all have 2 cats.

mine sounds very simular at times. the dealer said it's perfectly normal.my buddy has an 05 5.4 sounds just like mine, I think I'll live with it. could have worse problems.

It's hard to tell from his clip exactly how loud it really is, but that's exactly how mine sounded and it was a cam phaser. It sounds nothing like that now.

Vader, how far away were you with the mic when you recorded that?

I just went out and cranked mine in the garage to make sure I wasn't hearing anything... and nope... I don't hear a thing now except the fan... and that's with me standing right over the motor.

It can be heard with the hood closed but barely. The mic was about 6 - 10 inches from the motor.

My 05 - build 01/05 only had 2 cats.
