My First Race

I thought I would share this story. Well last night I finally had a chance to race my friend’s hemi. Now I am not normally one to do this sort of thing but I am so tired about hearing hemi this… better that… F OFF.

Anyway I have: 2005 FX4 Scab, 5.4, 3.73 rear end, 18” rims, Full tank of gas, I weigh 230lbs, Edge program on level 2 (Version 14, 3-4 shift @ -1), 87 octane.

He has: 2005 Quad Cab, Hemi engine, 17” rims, 3.55 rear end, Gas volume unknown, he weighs about 160lbs, 87 octane I’m sure.

I whooped him out of the hole by a truck length, he caught and passed me by ˝ truck length when I dropped into second, then I pulled up and past him just slightly, then he and I let off.

Not the total spanking I was looking for, but it will do. I will try again when all this edge update crap irons out and I can run level 3 for a bit. Like I said I normally do not do this sort of thing and that is not why I bought the edge, but it will be nice not listening to blah hemi this blah hemi that anymore.

I'm suprised you didn't totally whoop him with the Edge and the bigger gears.. Cause hemis are heavy and he had 3.55 gears and no tuner.. hmm oh well good kill!

try having the same gears in the truck and then brag about beating a hemi. Not trying to rain, but having a tuner and lower gears you should beat a truck with more hp but less gearing. For what it sounds like yall raced thru first and second. Being that full-size trucks are pretty comparable when you get identical trucks, then thats where speed shines. A titan, hemi, chevy, and then us in last place. However our trucks are not tuned for speed from the factory like a titan. We get better gas mileage than a hemi. And we can tow more than a chevy, so there are upsides to everything. With enough work, a truck can beat any of the above, depends on what your goal is. Sorry i went on a rant, but the such and such kills get a little ridiculous.

On a side note, My friend has a titan and i get tired of hearing him talk about how fast his truck is. But he loves to ride in my truck because it rides better and likes the interior better than his.

Wow.....if he could catch up when you had a tuner imagine what would happen if he had a tuner. Fords are just plain slow, Oh well.

That is why I thought I would share an honest story. I could have said we had the same gears blah blah blah and I killed him. Most of the time you hear these exaggerated stories and you can't get a good feel for where your truck actually stands. You’re right, this is a truck and that is why I said I am not usually one to race. This story also gives people that have an edge, an idea of what kind of results they may have if encountering the same situation. I am not trying to say I killed a hemi and that is not what this story was intended to be. Just an FYI story for anyone who cares to read it, not a please respond with comments about how good or bad another truck is thread.

Ignore the guys that say you had a gearing advantage. 1st gear in the Hemi trans is lower than our 1st gear, so actually he has the gearing advantage.

Nice kill.

I agree 100%. Even with tuning the F150 is at a disadvantage against a stock Hemi or Titan. The 5 speed transmissions in those trucks give them a huge advantage.

Nice post Rochester! Doesn't matter how you do it, as long as you take em.. and keep all those performance decals off for future encounters..., it really makes 'em wonder.....

Hahahah........that's funny.....

Anyway, that sounds like a good time, nothing like OWNING the all mighty "hemi". I remember I was at the strip last year and my buddy has a crew cab hemi just like that only with 3.73 gears and he had a K&N intake and duals. I had my exhaust and intake, and I was running my 93 octane tune. He ran a 10.4 and I ran a 10.2 and had a consistent truck length on him the whole way, so I bet with that 93 tune in your truck you should walk all over him.
