Volant installed

Last night I finally got the chance to install this CAI on my 06 Lariat(5.4 engine).
Install was not to bad. I lined the bottom of the air box with felt. To keep any kind of vibration from surfacing.
Install took about 20 minutes, but I have one peice left over. Its a 12 inch peice of weatherstripping. Not sure where's its supposed to go.

So on to my initial thoughts, because I only drove it to work so far. Which is only a 10 minute drive.
So far I haven't noticed anything! Not saying their is something wrong with Volant, I didn't feel any better throttle response which a lot have claimed. Also I should add that I also have a offroad Roush exhaust, as my only other mod.
Their is no addictional noise that I can hear from the Volant. Well over the Roush anyways.
I did do some 50 MPH stomps to pass some other cars on my way to work.
For some reason it feels a little more slumgish. Once I get home I'll do a once over again to check to hose's are still tight and what not.
No vibration what so ever through the RPM range.
No CEL's
I was kind of hoping to have better throttle response, but I guess I'll have to wait for the tuner.

Lucky you... That weatherstripping go's around the air hole on the box that rests on the fender wall... I'm glad to hear that you don't have any issues, please let us know if any popup once you had a chance to use it a bit more..

I didnt know what that piece of weatherstripping was for but I figured it out the day after my install. It attaches to the circular hole near your fender where the box sucks the air out. It allows the volant box to get a snug connection to the fender wall. That made a big difference on my throttle repsonse, hope that helps.

One suggestion you might want to consider is to remove the felt off the bottom of it. I think that if it gets wet, and retains moisture it will cause the mounting tray to rust out. Bigblackfx4 and i went on a road trip in his truck the other day and we were talking about the vibration issues that people are having. This is what we came up with. We thought that if you get a can of spray on bedliner and sprayed the tray and the bottom of the air box with several coats of the liner, then used a rubberized undercoating on top of it , it might solve the problem that some people are having. Drilling the 3rd bolt hole will help too, and make sure that you paint the hole so it won't rust. Use a thread locker on the bolts or a locking nut. Disconnect your batterie for a few minutes to let the computor re-learn the sensors. This might help with the throttle response. But get a tuner to complete the package!!!

I thought the vibration on mine was from the power steering tank. Found out the front of the box was touching the trans cooler line (tow package). I used a rouond file to slot the mounting holes moving it back & to the driver side. This helped a lot.

Be sure to type the word "volant" in the coupon window for the discount! That is if they are still doing it!

Well I took your advice and took the felt off. Instead I used 1/8 thick rubber and lined the bottom of the tray. I also added a third hole. Much more stable now. The air box doesn't even move now.
I also added the weatherstripping. I have to post back if anything has changed. I haven't driven it yet, but I have to go back to work. So....I'll post back in changes.

Glad to hear it installed OK. I was wondering what that weather stripping was for as well. I don't think it is essential. Mine butts up against the fender as it is. You will notice a lot more gains when you are tuned for it.
