Windshield + Rocks = frickin pissed

So today im driving on the freeway and Im pretty far behind the car in front of me and then I hear this loud WACK somewhere on my windshield on the passenger side. It was raining so I couldnt see what had happened but then i noticed a big dent/crack in my windshield at least an inch wide. So my question is how much will a new windshield cost (product and labor) and where can I buy one and get it installed?

I feel your pain bro, I'm about to get my third windshield installed. The first was ruined by the tint shop who tried to remove the rear view mirror. The second replacement will be on me since my wife got a rock chip when it was 10 below out in Alaska. It hit dead center of the windshield and took off both directions. I've got a curvy crack from one end of the windshield to the other.

The first windshield was around $225 installed, and that included them finishing the install of the tinted brow. I plan to go back to the same place and have them do it one more time. I asked for the glass without the F-150 etching and they said that saved me quite a bit of money. I wanted that anyhow since I'm trying to get all of the "ford" words off the truck. I know, I know, I'm a poser.

A lot depends on your insurance too. I have full comprehensive with a $0 dedectible. If my windshield gets broke, cost is $0 to me. Worth it to me, as on my '90, which I had for 8 years and 165K, I had 4 windshields put in. Two in one year. The windshield on my 04 was broken by a stone at the ripe old age of 10 days. I have yet to have an F150 that hasn't had to hav the windshield replaced at least once. I'm on my 8th F150 since '78.

Some insurance policies count glass as safety items and will replace 'em no charge. Mine didn't, and it cost me $341 for a Carlite replacement installed.

So far, the windshield of every F-150 (3) that I have ever owned was broken in the first year that I owned the truck. The windshield on the KR was broken in two places before I made the first payment. Now I have a new strategy, leave the cracks alone. So far it seems to be working. Since I have decided to leave the windshield cracked I have not had another rock hit my truck. It seems that the rocks know that hitting my windshield is pointless and leave me alone.

If price is no concern to you, then have it done. If it is, bring it up my way and you and I can tackle it ourselves, couldn't be too hard, then again find out the installation price.

I'm going to threadhijack for a minute here. Hey Roush05 why would you need to take the review mirror down to do brow tint? My F150 windshield has the graphic inside the windshield and the glass is smooth. So I guess what I'm asking is whats the reason they removed your rearview? Was it becuase the the textured 150 surface on your truck or just to have enough room to put it on.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about your windshield, we had one replaced on a ranger and it was so much cheaper to just pay for it out of your pocket than to go through your insurance, and paying the deductible.

Just be glad it was the windshield and not any of the other windows in the truck. I had some a**hole spinning donuts in a gravel parking lot throw a rock up and break the center panel out of my power sliding rear window. Nobody saw the guy, just the donuts in the gravel. My insurance is going to pay for it but it still sucks because the company that came out to fix it arrived and the insurance company never told them the window was electric and they dont replace them. Now I am taking it to my dealership. They gave me an estimate of 1400 dollars to replace it. The first company that came out to fix it said that he replaced a rear side window in a supercab and it was an 800 dollar job.

My 2002 Supercab's window was broken into, they stole a dvcam and a rifle. I bought that window at a small window shop (kinda ironic) next to a pick'n'pull and the charge was about $100, I think $120 installed. I saved that $20 and installed it myself, was a cinch! Definitely not an $800 job, those arseholes capitalize on insurance claims don't they...

you have to tell the installing company its electric, insurance co. has no idea..
i've installed about five or six, $800.00 aprox...dealers rarely install, they sub to a glass company...I don't know where you live, but if theres a Binswanger Glass in you neck of the woods, we install them.....

When I filed my claim with my insurance they took all my information about the truck including the fact that the window was electric. I told them I would use their approved glass company to do the repair because that was it is guaranteed. The day after I filed my claim the glass company contacted me to set up an appointment and told me they had all the information they needed from my insurance company.

I have gone through my fair share of windshields and have never paid a penny for any of them.

Check out Geico, they have the best rates I have found and amazing customer service.

And no, I do not work for, or have any connection with Geico.
