Winter Wheelin Fun Video
Winter Wheelin Fun Video
This was just one of those "what the hell, lets go" trips to the snow. The clutchpacks in the limited slip gave out on me this trip, used to work great. I'm probably going to be installing a truetrac soon because of it. If any of you are able to get a hold of the truetrac for both front and rear for cheap, let me know and you can at least be assured there will be a detailed review with video. Lastly, my turn signal bulb and brakelight bulb burnt out. Anybody know the bulb sizes offhand?
Oh and the story behind the quote goes like so. We pulled up to a [what looked like] an abandoned general store with a pub, we asked where catcreek road was and the old gentlemen said it's about a mile up the road but it won't be open for a few more months. We insisted on the direction and he told us, but not before mentioning, "If you're going down catcreek road, you're on your own" and turned the corner into the back of the shop. Creepiest sh*t I've ever seen. Everything from the moment we pulled in to that store was ripped right from the beginning of a horror movie. It's obviously nothing hardcore but I thought I'd share the small adventures I take. I'm pretty stock so you can't expect much, and with my LS going out I wasn't making it through much. This video portrays my exhaust (take note as your watching) pretty well but it still doesn't do it justice, it's pretty loud. Definitely a mild offroading trip but it was fun nonetheless.

The slip-point is just weak as hell right now, it's still better than an open rear. I'm thinking of draining the fluid and using the minimal slip fluid recipe for now. You cannot get limited slip in the front 8.8 out of the factory so in essence it's 4x2. However there is a huge difference when a front wheel and a back wheel are spinning as opposed to the 2 back wheels, you can get much further with open diffs in a 4wd compared to a 2wd with a locker, there is a lot of weight difference on the front axle compared to the back (engine vs bed, etc) so there is no comparison. It's 2:30 am and I'm hardly awake, hope I'm making sense to you.

If anyone knows the taillight bulb part #'s offhand, please post them. When I have my lights on, the tailights light up, but when I push the brake, one of the tailights does not "brighten". Also, the turn signal bulb is not working, wonder what that could mean.
Not sure of part number, but the turn signal is not working because the brake light is broken. Most new cars have this feature so that you know when you have a taillight out. Try replacing just the brake light bulb and your turn signal should start working normally again.

3157 is the bulb type per the Sylvania guide, the 3157LL is the one they have.
BTW : the turn signal and the brake element are the same element

The weight of our trucks in the snow actually helps quite a bit, I pushed a lot of snow over whereas the Jeep was spun out because of the banks. Have any of you noticed if snow has scratched your paint by any chance, or at least the clearcoat? I am not sure if I came home with new or old scratches, its getting to that point where I can no longer tell.
did you get your wheels yet?
I haven't had too much of a problem with snow/ice scraping the clear on this truck, but I've had that problem with other trucks. It's only seen part of one Alaska winter though, so give it time. The Roush spoiler though has seen better days. The paint shop didn't prime it very well and it is peeling badly. I need to get it redone in the near future as it really looks like crap right now. I've been contemplating painting the FX4 flares with the texture on, but I doubt they would last through a winter with all the rocks that are put on the roads for traction.
I'll have to get some winter ice driving video from on the river. We used to do that all the time, but the utilities started using the river, so the water stays much warmer in the winter, and doesn't get as thick. It makes those spin outs a little more exciting.
A sign of spring every year is when the first vehicle breaks through the ice bridge.
