For the guy with the temperature reading problem. Do you have a grill guard?
I know that i have a solid black grill guard and that tends to throw the temp out of whack for a bit until i get actually driving.

I do have a black grill guard but this problem started before I installed it. The guage seriously doesn't update but about a degree per mile. This time of year it will take a full thirty minutes to get to the right temperature when I come out of work in the afternoon. If anyone has the TSB, I would appreciate it.

On the way home, the temperature indicatin slowly climbs but really doesn't read right until just before I get home. I have complained to the dealer twice and have been told the indication updates one degree per mile if moving and one degree per 20 minutes if sitting still. I agree that you don't want it bouncing around but I have never seen a vehicle that is that slow to respond. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to get it fixed?
Yes, I have the exact same problem. No I have not taken it in to get fixed.

Outside temp

I noticed today that my 04 F150 fluctuated up and down like a toilet seat. Reached 140 deg. and came down and back up again. Seeing the dealer tomorrow

mine doesn't work at all. Sometimes it will startout at whatever temperature, then within a couple of minutes it goes to nothing, just have all straight lines. I will eventually get it fixed, but is this tied to something that I need to be concerned about?

Mine is pretty accurate. On my mom's Expedition, it'll read like -66 degrees when it's 90 degrees outside sometimes.

Fixing the world, 0.3 at a time...

I had this problem which was common with early 04 f150's. there is a tsb to get reflashed which will fix the problem. mine worked great after the reflash. but recientely has srarted reading high. I do not remember the tsb number. your dealer should fix for free.

i have been there with my 04. it was the sensor behind the grill. since the truck was a lariat and had the auto climate control the bad temp sensor screwed up the auto function of the climate control.

when i took the truck in to the dealer the problem was intermittent. i told them i suspected the sensor but they said to leave the troubleshooting to them. well after all day of not seeing it fail the tech said he replaced it cause it seemed like the most likely part to cause this. he put on the paperwork that he saw it fail and tested the part and found it defective.

after it was replaced i never saw it act up again.
