Modded my Volant air box............

Well after I got my Volant installed I was getting vibration and some type of rattling at mid-WOT. Sounded good but the rattling sound and vibration were kinda bugging me. So I had a idea on a fix, I insulated the inside walls and outside bottom of the air box with a product called Peel N Seal. This stuff is kinda like Dynamat which is used in car audio for sound insulating & reducing noise and vibration. I just finished and took the truck out for QUICK spin and I have no vibrations or nor do I hear that rattle anymore. In fact it even changed the way it sounds, now it has a deeper more natural tone. Anyways I took some pix for you guys to see. I really can't say much about it till I have had a chance to drive it more, I will keep you posted. Here is a link to the stuff I used, except mine has a aluminum backing.

No, I would think it's keeping it cooler now

I'm interested to see how much this cuts down on your sound. I want a CAI and like the Volant but I don't want the loud, loud intake noise that my friends' cars have (Altima, Eclipse, etc). I'm also interested to see if it performs any differently. Looks good though! Clean!

I haven't got mine yet, so I don't know were it is pulling the air from?
If its pulling air from the wheel well, then that should keep the temps consistent with the outside air.
Instead of the Volant box heating up the engine.

Nice job!

How much louder then stock is it? I use to have a K&N intake on my old truck and it was loud. Loud was fine then but I really dont want loud now. So if you mod cut down on the sound that would be great.

My only thought about lining the inside of the box is that you better make damn sure that the peel and stick won't come loose and block off the air flow to the filter. I would check it from time to time to make sure that it is sticking to the sides of the box, and not coming loose.

Tuff4rd,

How could you know that or feel confident in it?

You'd have to measure intake air temps and see how the variance is between before and after to know for sure and be confident that you are not causing harm to your engine or creating a lean condition.

Where did you buy the Peel-N-Seal from? I would like to reduce some of the noise mine puts out as well...

The extra noise at WOT made me consider going back to my drop-in K&N till I did a 0-60 run. My best run before the Volant was 8.64. After the install I did a run, same location, same weather, same everything as the previous run. New time was 8.09 !! Not bad considering I have 305/40/22's on my truck. A .55 second decrease is pretty good. No more 0-60 runs though, my tires spin for a good bit at the start and 22's arent cheap.

Believe me, If did not think this stuff would stick I would had never done it. This stuff would be a bitch to take off even if I wanted to. This stuff sticks even better with heat. I will take a peek from time to time to check on it, I already did today and its on there good. I guess this would be a good time for a plexie glass lid mod

Try looking at a roofing place, if you do it just be sure to wipe the surface clean, maybe with alcohol and make sure to press it down very very well.

It did quiet it down in the at mid throttle, but you can hear a nice deep roar at WOT. Overall it did muffle the sound, which I like. And it performs nicely.

Well since the box was designed to keep heat from the engine bay, my thinking is that im just keeping that much more heat from penitrating the filter by insulating the box. If it was going to make it run lean im sure I would have seen a CEL by now. I could be wrong, but it make sense to me.

Im not sure how much louder it is than stock since I have a catback system. But I can tell you this it did quiet it down
