Skeeter, don't worry. I don't know why some people are having issues here, this was a pretty basic installation without any real instructions from volant. Basic comon sense will get you through it without a problem. I installed mine without doing anything to it. I have no issues PERIOD, except that my truck is freakin fast now.... If anyone is still on the fence, fallover to the Volant side of the fence!

Dont worry. Even without the insulation, these trucks dont do what those imports do. They control and monitor the intake and adjust constantly rather than suck in air at full all the time. They dont have that hissing noise at all and only growl when at WOT. I recently installed a AirRaid and was amazed at how quiet it is.

I did the Peel N Seal thing to my Volant box today as well. I picked it up from Lowe's in the roofing section. I did a decent job getting it in (not as nice looking as Tuff4rd did though). He's right, it has some industrial roof gooey stuff on it that only gets stickier with heat so I dont imagine that it will be moving anytme soon. But since I am a little O.C. I will be checking it from time to time.

It did knock off a significant amount of the noise that the Volant was generating. Some people may like that amount of sound when you punch your truck, but it was a bit much for me, just my opinion. I noticed in the other Volant post that Tuff4rd noted a slight loss of power off the line but increased in the rid-range and that someone said to adjust the Edge WOT Fuel setting to 1.6 so I went ahead and did that too since I noticed the same thing. That made a BIG difference.

Now it is at a sound level that I can deal with and my truck has the same off the line power as before just with more mid-range power now. So to recap, Peel N Stick for those who think it's too loud, and adjust WOT Fuel to at least 1.6 for those with an Edge that notice power loss off the line.

Cool Brother, I'm glad you are pleased with the results I too did not like the sound it was producing before this mod, to loud and sounded kinda hollow if that makes sence? I think this mod gives it a deeper more natural tone, yet muffles the sound more to my liking. And at mid-WOT you know it's there, sounds killer. I too will be checking to see how its holding up from time to time, but im sure as you know this stuff sticks like crazy and only gets better with heat. And MY commen sence tells me that its keeping the air box cooler which is a added bonus. I had not had a chance to change my WOT fuel level on my Edge yet, but I will be doing so since you said it helped you out big time.
Thanks for your input.

Tuff4rd, so after your Peel N Seal mod did the vibration stop for you? Or did your mod just quiet it down? I got the Volant recently and I'm still having the vibration problem. I've emailed Volant and am waiting a response. What I've noticed is that my sleeve that connects the tube to the airbox seems to be different than the pics I've seen, this includes the Volant website illustration and I found BigBlackFX4's gallery and his is different than mine too. Theirs has the hump in the sleeve, mine is just a straight piece of rubber. I have no idea if this could be causing the vibration and noise I'm getting at around 2k rpm. This is not the Volant performance noise I'm concerned about. After the vibration ends and it's in WOT, the truck sounds simply awesome.

I've moved the brake fluid reservoir, I've adjusted the Volant airbox so it's not touching anywhere, I've re-installed everything 3 times now, following Volant's instructions available online. I even temporarily capped the lower round hole for the scoop, but that did nothing.

You had mentioned something about the vibration when you first installed yours, so just wondering if it's totally, completely gone?

Since I did this to my air box, I have yet to notice the vibrations. I was thinking I was getting it from the tube that holds the air filter, it is being held by 2 bolts that are on the outside of the box. That tube is butting right up against the air box, I unbolted that tube and put the seal stuff on the part of the tube thats butting against the air box which also has the Peel N Seal on it. You cant see the seal on the tube in this pic, but thats the one im talking about. I hope this makes sence to you.

I called Volant tech support when I got mine awhile ago about the vibration and a couple of other things. He said to make sure that the tube was not hitting the firewall where it goes into the t/b. Also make sure the box isn't hitting any of the factory parts. I pulled it off and reinstalled eveything and put some thin rubbery foam on the bottom of the box where it bolts down. It's better now.

I asked about the ram tube as well, he said it was really for a little better gas mileage on the highway.

BTW...I guess you covered the holes in the box with the Peel-n-Seal stuff? Not the fender air inlet hole of course.

I have a can of the tool rubber dip that I redo my pliers and wire cutters etc. and thought about using that.

No, I left the ram air tube holes open

Thanks for your response. I also put some strip insulation between the the tube that holds the air filter, thinking that was it. Guess I may have to do your mod, which looks very professionally done, by the way.

I'll pull it off one more time and watch for clearances. I did do a check on the tube into the TB. The front scoop that sits behind the headlight is really close to the frame there. I'll try and reposition it some more to create better clearance. Thanks for your feedback.

Talking Holes on Ram Air Tube- leave them opened.

Consider, what happens when it Rains.... the water has to go somewhere. Hopefully not into your Air Filter. Leave the Holes Open so the water sucked in can drain out of those holes.

Found the Midrange Vibration....

Right after I installed my CAI Air Box I noticed how close the Bracket that holds the Power Steering Fluid Reservior was. Considering what happens when the Engine Torques it might come in contact with the Air Box. I took off the Bracket and opened the mounting holes such that I could move the Reservoir away from the AirBox. Also consider when assembling everything... make sure where the Rubber Coupling tubes join the Hard Plastic parts. Make sure there is space between the Hard Plastic Parts. Problem solved. Thanks everyone for your input and Ideas. I thought about DynaMatting the Air Box. I have already installed a DynaMat Hood Lid Heat Shield. Consider the outside of the Air Tube between the AirBox and Throttle Body.

Following this thread started by Tuff4rd, I decided to line my new Volant air box (with Powercore filter) prior to installing. Turns out I had some sheets of Dynamat Xtreme left over from a door panel and rear cab sound deading project that I had done earlier as part of a sound/dvd system install. To completely wrap the inside of the Volant box, it took almost 2 full sheets of Dynamat, but this includes every exposed inside surface of the box. The Volant is the last mod after: 3" sido exhaust, edge programmer on level 3, 2" leveling. I love the sound when you punch it, but cruising along <1800 rpm it is most quite. Performance-wise, its hard to say at this point (not like the Edge which truly let the 5.4 Triton rip), but the sound is absolutly great! Kinda reminds me of an old 4 barrel carb opening up. I suspect that without the Dynamt that the Volant would be too much for my personal tastes. Trying to decide if I should throw on the Volant Ram Air snorkel now.
