Which Code Alarm

Which Alarm/starter should I go with

CA630 Vs. CA550

Do I really need an alarm in the truck? Doesn't the chip in the key prevent theft?

Also, what else does the 630 offer me?

Thanks

Most if not all of the time an alarm is used to protect valuables inside the truck rather than preventing theft of the whole vehicle. With remote start you leave a *HUGE* vulnerability with either a secondary key bypass being used or a key less type PATS bypass system.

I got the remote start because it gets damn cold sometimes and I like to have a nice warm truck to go to. The remote start is a lot better than going with leaving the key in the ignition without being in it. I know you didn't list the 2-way CA-670, but that was the system I went with. I really like it...I can start the truck and get a confirmation that it actually started. The alarm part is nice, but it won't keep someone from smashing the window and taking my stuff.

The PATS bypass I went with says it will maintain the factory PATS system functionality, so I do not *think* having it is an issue or increases the chance of a theft. Here are the specs for it and they work with the Code Alarm systems.

Hope it helps.

I got the code alarm 670 as well. I had some issues with it in the beginning, but i took it back and they straightened it out. Make sure that whoever installs it, calls the Manufacturer to find out how to wire it up to your truck. There is a right way and a wrong way to do it on our trucks. The wrong way the truck will beeb about 5 times every so often and eventually set off the alarm. It happened to mine, at 5:00 am!!! I like the features alot, the 2- way remote is killer! I can also check the temp inside the truck on the remote! Start confirmation is worth it's weight in gold too.
