Question How Accurate is Trip Computer?

Hey everyone. I have a couple questions. First, how accurate is the trip computer on an '05 screw Lariat in reference to miles per gallon? I have about 9k on the truck and I still only get 11.4 mpg in town and about 13-14 mpg on long trips. Lastly, do you need to reset the mpg on the computer with each fill-up or at all? I appreciate any info on this as I am not the sharpest tool in the shed. Thanks!

I took the service manager's advice.

I reset mine on the way our from the dealership with about 3.2miles on the clock [if my againg memory serves me right] and haven't touch it since. It's creeping up everytime I drive it. I'm now at 14.4 mile/gal with 4900K on the clock with predominantly highway driving.

Do NOT reset it at every fill up or you'll register poor figures and never register an accurate miles-per-gallon figure.

A close Lariat Screw owner/buddy did this for almost 7K on his new '05 and wondered why it never got more than about 9 mile/gal. :o

There's absolutely no need to reset it at every fill up.

As far as accuracy? I really don't see why a digital readout wouldn't be accurate. Maybe not precise, but I'm sure pretty darn close. It's a Ford, remember?

Safe driving.

Btw...many people reset the ODM not the DTE at every fill up to gauge gas use.

Mine's off too! J/K.....I wish, maybe I could blame the **** poor gas mileage on that. Not!

I usually reset mine after every fill-up. It will read anywhere from 15-17 mpg.

Safe driving.

If you read your manual about the MPG guage you will see that it says to "reset EVERYTIME you engage cruise control on the highway" something to that affect. It also states something about averaging per 100 gallons.

I reset it often and it works great
