My iPod is horrible. I have had it for a little longer than a year now and right now it won't even play songs. I don't feel like going into details but basically is makes a clicking noise (sounds like it's unsuccessfuly trying to access the harddrive) anytime I try to play music. I took it into the Apple Store and they told me I would have to deal with HP since I bought the HP version.

I am annoyed to say the least.

No, this set up is brand new for select 2006 Alpine head units. This cable was just released to the public a few days ago.

You can't return it anywhere? Try Wal-Mart. They take anything back. Even without a recipt you might be able to exchange it.

I had a similar problem after dropping the thing. I could play only certain songs whilst the others I couldn't acces and would make a tick, tick, tick sound like the harddisk was f-ed up!

I went for broke and erased everthing (15 gig) and reinstalled the ITunes from the Apple website which was a newer version and the thing worked again! Also, the battery life is a LOT longer than it ever was. Give it a try at keep us posted.

Good luck!

Apple will replace it free of charge. I am on my 2nd and my wife is on her 3rd. The turn around time is less than a week. They send you a box with the shipping label on it. All you do is put yours in it and stick it in the mail.

If anyone was interestred to know... The iPod does shut itself off automatically after 20 mins. or so. I left it in the truck while I was at the gym this morning and when I came out it had shut itself off. And I didn't have a dead battery either.

Let us know in about 10-20 days if you are driving and your music just stops.

The charge my truck offers could not keep up with the drainage.

That doesn't surprise me that much. These iPod suck a lot of juice, especially when shuffling through the songs as much as I do. I'd in fact be really happy with 10-20 days of use. Before I was charging it every couple of days. I figure in 10-20 days I'll have more stuff to update on it and then I'll just give it a really good charge through the computer.

I have an older Alpine with the iPod box in my car. I've never had any issues with the iPod battery draining. A half hour drive charges it to about 80%. Also when the HU turns off, the ipod goes to sleep in about a minute. When I only owned my car, I never had to charge the ipod for months and I listen to mine for 4-6 hours a day at work.

That's good to know. And you're right about the iPod turning off in a couple of minuets. I thought it was about 20, but I ran into the store today for a few minuets and it was off when I got back.

So far the iPod has been working and charging perfectly fine. As I get more used to the controls it's easier and easier to find the songs.
I have some bad news for those of you who were interested in getting the Full Speed iPod cable. It's on backorder until APRIL!!!!!

Yeah thats a good setup. For now I'm replacing my single CD HU with the 6 disc/mp3 HU. I hate changing CDs so right now I dont really use the radio. Maybe with 6 discs with 100 songs each I'll be satisfied with selection, then I'll probably get picky about the quality. Oh well!

Have you reset and restored it? The ticking could be the HD going bad, but a restore could fix it as could an update.

What gen is that do you know?

Not true, Apple will not even troubleshoot these ipods, nor will they replace them. THe only way to get replacements is to either be in your one year warranty or have the Applecare Protection Plan and have purcahsed it from Apple or a reseller. His is an HP ipod, manufacturered by Apple but sold by HP as an HP product.

I know abit about iPods, if anyone has any issues, let me know I can probably help with the actual unit itself.
