trans./towing question

On an '05 screw with a 5.4L, should you tow a 2500 lb. boat in or out of overdrive? And if one adds a programmer w/towing tune, does the answer remain the same? Thanks

I would turn OD Off, personally, until you get on the highway and cruise.

Having OD off helps get the load moving easier as you shift through the gears and puts less strain on the transmission, even though it's only 2500 lbs. Also, you have the added engine braking associated with the OD off when you're in town and have to stop frequently.

You'll never know it's back there. I tow my 30' Bumper Pull TT that wieghs clost to 8Klb fully loaded and the truck pulls it just fine and gets close to 10 mpg while doing it! Not bad at all for a half-ton.

Good luck.

I agree with Sackett. It depends on the speed that you are going when trailering. If its city driving I would turn the OD off but when highway cruising obviously turn OD on.
