Unanswered Mark LT Question

I've searched and found no answer to this question. Do you have to disconnect the battery when installing the LT handles? I know that you have to disconnect some electrical things in the door panels. Might be a stupid question, but would appreciate if someone with this mod could reply.

Thanks,

JOHN

Cool, I guess thats the majority. Another question you may be able to answer? Once the door panels are removed, what exactly is the process to get the handles out and install the new ones. I've did alot of searching but none of the threads are very specific with the locking mechanism.

Thanks for all the help,

start with the tailgate so you get an idea of what your in for, then the passenger side finally the driver side.i used a flashlight to see better inside the door panels, have a pair of needle nose with you to remove the lock cylinder clip.

The search button is your friend. Other than that I can add that a hook pick and an awl are the best tools for disconnecting the rods from the handles. Look into the door and see the green tab. Pull it open with the pick. Poke the E-clip off of the lock cylinder with a magnetized awl to free that rod. I would have cut an hour off my install if somebody had told me that 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for the adivce. But can you describe what a hook pick and awl are? I've heard of these tools before, but I don't know what they look like.

Yes....thanks for the install help. It's going to be a little while before the install, but I'm still trying to get all the information I can gather. As soon as college starts to slow down a little, I get them put on.

Thanks again to Luis, and eveyone who chimed in with their comments.

A hook pick looks like a dentist's tool for scraping your teeth. It's just a hook really. They sell them in automotive stores for pulling seals and rings and stuff. An awl is a leather punch or ice pick. Like a screwdriver, but comes to a sharp point at the end. It came with a set of Craftsman screwdriver's I have.

The LT handles have painted buckets, and molded chrome plastic (not stick on covered) pulls. Much classier than the handles on the chrome package IMO.

I've told a few people that I know, that I will be putting on the LT handles, and no one understands why I would waste my money on door handles. Can't wait until I get them put in, because it's the small things that make the difference.
