Taking the trim panel off the first time is a b****, but I found it comes off easier after that. Just make sure you pull out any of those clips that stay stuck in the dash and put them back on the trim piece instead of trying to force it back in...I broke one of my tabs on the trim piece that way.

I tried to get them out, but those suckers wouldn't budge. I didn't feel like going to get the pliers, so I just put it back on really carefully. Maybe next time I'll pull them out and use a little Gorilla Glue to make sure they stay on the trim panel.

The Full Speed iPod connector is new for 2006 and it enables you to connect the iPod to the Alpin HUs without that $100 box. And if you have ever used the box you know how slow it is, hence the name Full Speed.
The cable is $30 and just plugs into the back of the deck and has an iPod dock connector on the other end. It's also nice to not have to find a place for that external iPod box.

I'm on my 2nd Alpine. 1st was stolen which allowed me to upgrade and get the ipod box...and yes it is slow. At the rate I'm goin my current Alpine should be stolen any week now. Anyhow, nice install, what speakers you running with it? Also wonder if Alpine improved the iPod controls, look forward to the review.

I have two sets of the Alpine Type-S 5x7 speakers. They sounds really nice with the new head unit. The bass breaks up a little at high volumes, but I still have to tweak all the settings to get it to sounds just right.
The iPod search controls are the same as the MP3 search controls and I was playing with them tonight and it seems pretty straightforward, just takes a little practice.

Yeah, on Monday I got an e-mail saying it shipped. Boy was I happy.
The iPod cable says that it won't ship until Feb. 6th either, but we'll see.

I've got an '05 CD6/MP3 head unit, and I too use Nero. Haven't figured out how to break things down into folders yet though.

I have Nero on my laptop but all my MP3s are on my desktop. Nice program.
I found it quite easy to do in Roxio. Just create the folders and click + drag.

Worked like a charm in the Alpine too. The navigation was fairly easy and the CD text helps the navigation a lot!

I was going to order the same unit from crutchfield. But I decided to save up the funds for the edge. Hopefully, by this spring I'll have that unit. Let us know how that ipod cable works out.

Great choice on the HU. Gotta love those Alpines.

Like I said before I've never been disappointed with an Alpine product.

I was thinking that for the iPod cable I am going to try and cut a small hole in the space underneath the HU and run the wire in there so I can keep the iPod in there out of the way.

I was also thinking of getting one of those dash mats that they have in circuit city and target so that things don't slide around and cut it to fit in there.

I use Nero as well, and can't figure it out. If anyone ever figures it out, let me know!
