"Break-in" time for a motor... how long or a myth?

Hey guys, what is the time that the motor needs to be given to get "broken-in" so you recieve the best performance, gas mileage, ect.?

Or is it all a myth?

Wow, this is a huge historical debate in all forums I have been members off. Mainly comes up on the bike forums. I follow the manufactures instructions. I have read mixed reviews though on drive it hard for better seat in, and it will create more power and so on, but my advice is to follow the manufacturer. $.02

Just drive it. Pretend you are a truck, how would you want to be treated?

I wouldn't recomend towing untill you had your first oil change.

I disagree with asinatra.

I think you should just let your truck idle for 10-12 years and just keep feeding it gas for propper break-in. After that 10-12 years of solid idleing your muffler bearings and head light fluid should be all broken in.

After that change your engine oil with some Penzoil 85W140 gear oil.

For breakin....just drive it normally. Check the oil to make sure it isn't using any.

Biggest thing is not to let it idle for long periods and get hot.

Thats all....then when you're finished 300,400,500 miles go back to your old way of driving. DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT !!
