Truck is finally back - less than thrilled. Please provide any help/advice.

Hey All,

Just picked the truck up after a month of work. Holy cow I forgot how slow this thing is.

For the most part everything is great. I'm just REALLY disappointed by a few things.

1. Rock chips all over the hood and mirrors, there must be 15 in total. These must be from the 4 hour tow that had to happen to get it back down here.

Being the moron that I am at times, I signed the dumb papers before looking at this. So I'm pretty much up a creek.

Looks like I'll be using touch up paint everywhere, then using 2000 grit sand paper soaked in car wash fluid to lightly sand down the bubbles of paint. Then get out any scratches from that with Meg 80 and going over it with NXT.

In all honesty there is four on each mirror and then 5-7 on the hood in sporadic locations.

What do you guys think, do I stand a better chance of messing everything up or is possible to touch this stuff up?

Progressively sad,

Duke

Sorry to hear about the chips in the paint. I would definatley at least touch up paint them. If not, you run the risk of rusting.

Didn't you have them tow you on a flat bed or are you just 2wd?

Sorry to hear about the chips. You said that you were upset about "a few things" and numbered the paint chips number "1.", but never got to number 2. Were there some more things that you were upset about, or was the use of the "1." just to add a little impact to the paint chips?

It should have been on a flat bed as the rear was all messed up, I don't see how they got it here otherwise.

I just don't see where else these chips came from. I know for a fact they weren't there before hand because I detailed the truck the day before this happened. All the chips are to the primer and not metal so I won't risk rust, but I do have white spots

There is one that is down to the metal but I had them put clear bra across the front and that covered it. I had asked them to put touch up paint on them first but evidently nobody listened. That really erks me too because that was $150.

Haha, that was funny, thanks. Yeah the 1. was to give impact to the rock chips. I'm also annoyed by dirt on the leather seats and swirling in the tonneau cover and the fact they clear bra'd the mud flaps wrong and I have to stop by there to finish the mud flaps at 7am Thurs on my way to work because I can't go any other time this week....

But I was too sad about the rock chips to continue to number so I quit.

I'm heading outside to touch up with touch-up paint while it's clean and let that dry for 24 hours and then sand them down tomorrow. I'd take pics, but I already tried and it's impossible to get a good picture of.

Sorry, didn't mean to poke fun...I was just a bit confused with the numbering. It's always very depressing when you take such good care of something and then somebody else has no regard for it at all. My kids are the worst! They have scratched my vehicles with bicycles, hockey equipment, skateboards, baseball bats, football helmets, and everything else you can imagine. They are not allowed to go anywhere near my truck while it's in the garage. I hardly let them ride in it. I have 13,000 miles and it still looks brand new, inside and out! I may be ****, but I know it's the last new vehicle I will have for a long time! I'm just saying, I know what it's like to really care about something and have somebody else mess it up, and then they don't understand why you get so upset. I hear ya' bro'!

It looks sharp, I like the tires and rims. I really did think it was funny, it was nice to laugh. I've been bummed the past few days with work and then moving out of my apt. Seeing the rock chips just didn't make my day any better. Oh well, time to go clean the leather and touch up the paint and try and make it all better.

So how'd the rest of the truck turn out? You had a good amount of damage.
Maybe you got the chips on the day of your accident? You know, from the sand, salt, rocks. Were you behind a salt truck? Those things throw out some big chunks sometimes.

If you're not happy with it your best bet is to take it back to the place that repaired it. Just because you signed some papers doesn't mean they won't work with you to make sure they have a happy customer. I'd at least try it before you start going crazy with some touch up paint. What have you got to lose?

Well now it definitely needs to go back. I was opening the tonneau cover and noticed a spot that must have gotten paint chiped off when the tonneau cover broke and flew forward. It went to the metal and now has rusted in the past month.

Looks like I'll need to rent a car now and pay a bootie load since I'm under 25. Meanwhile since it'll be out of commission again I'll push for the repainting of the hood.
