Powerslot/Hawk Information

I am about to change out my Rotors and Pads with the Powerslot/Hawk combo or similar. I haven't purchased them yet, but I am sick of the Ford rotors and Pads (dust and squeeking). I know I could have them replaced by Ford under the TSB but I really want to get a good brake setup on my truck without buying a complete brake system.

I did a search and only saw one person that had this combo and he was very happy, although I didn't see any comments about dust. I will be changing my wheels but I am staying with 18" so I won't need the same stopping power as someone that went with a larger tire/rim combo.

So basically I am looking for anyone that has a good Rotor/Brake Pad combo in regards to stopping over stock and the dreaded dust issue.

Any help would be appreciated....

I am thinking about upgrading to the Powerslots and Hawk pads on my FX4. I had that setup on my Lightning and there was a bit of stopping improvement. Break dust settled down after the bads got all seated in. The rotors do look better then the stockers since there plated. It is also a good time to paint your calipers while the wheels and stuff our off. I used this G12 caliper paint. It was awesome you mix it,brush it on and let it dry and is high temp and looks nice I think. If your going to go for it dude then "GO FOR IT."

I have both the Powerslot rotors and the Hawk pads. All I can say is, NO brake dust and great performance. The Ford rotors are terrible, and warp way to easy!
Actually, just about every car/trucks stock brakes suck, unless its a high performance vehicle.

Do they use the stock calipers and are they a larger diameter than stock?

Yes they use the stock calipers, and are the same diameter as stock.

And BTW- Anyone who says slotted rotors are not good for towing is wrong. I tow heavy loads (8500 lbs) quite a bit and have experenced great performance from this setup.

I had the TSB done. I took it in for a shudder while braking. The replaced my front rotors, calipers, and pads. So if yall are going to replace your pads and rotors and you have a problem with your brakes. You may want to have it fixed first. So your old calipers wont mess up you new rotors too.

power slot/hawk

I've had mine(F&R) for about 25000mi. The combo works great. Break in or bedding the new pads takes time and from previous experience on other cars, very important. Brake dust is minimal. The only concern I have is when the brakes are cold you need a little more pedal pressure until the pads get some heat in them. For my "sprited" driving style I couldn't be happier. Got mine from tire rack.

You won't be sorry. No brake dust and the stopping power is fantastic. Mine have been on my truck for more than a year now and I continue to be amazed. Every time I pull the wheels I examine them and they show very little sign of wear. This is after 35K + miles. If you look at my signature, you will see that I have quite a number of weight adding mods so I am asking a lot of my brakes. I don't think this combo can be beat.

One bit of advice. When you pull the rear stock rotor / drum combo, put plenty of anti seize on the new set. The stock was a pain to get off (we used pullers and a 2lb hammer to break them free).

Good luck. You won't go wrong with this setup.
