Installing Fabtech 6" Lift

What tools were needed, how many jacks were needed, and what would have made the install a breeze if you knew before hand. If there is a "silver bullet" to this install let me know before I take this task on. I'm not too intimidated by it, but I don't want it to take anymore than 8 hours. Are there any difficult parts of the installation? I know Sal did this a while back with a buddy, so I'll go ahead and email you this thread. I got the basic 6" fabtech with the white shocks. If anyone knows what size shock will fit in their place I'd appreciate that information. I'd order a different pair of shocks instead.

I've already ordered the kit, along with the wheels and tires. I ordered 20" Mazzi Hulks with 35" Nitto Mud Grapplers. I am trying to change them to 18" rims but have yet to get a hold of them. May be too late. I am afraid they will look awkward with little rubber. I definitely plan to go up in tire size but only if I can get someone to buy the tires back. I didn't want to deal with rubbing issues so I didn't go with 37's right off the bat. I plan on riding the rubicon soon thereafter so I'd prefer 18" rims, that way I can mount my current Lariat rims so they get beat up on the trail. If anyone is interested in these rims I might sell them, but there is no tread on the back two tires. Plus, I'm going to burn them to smitherines before I put my new tires on.

I would honestly just take it to a shop! i think installing a lift like that would take you forever; I'd honestly pay whatever it cost so I wouldn't have to install that..

I'd say 4 nice jacks and your going to need a lot of tools. Try to get a hold of an instruction booklet from Fabtech so you read up before you dive in.

I have planned on getting a hold of it so I can religiously study the hell out of it. How long did it take the guys at the shop to complete your install. I am considering taking it in, but I'd like to be a part of it. But because of liability issues that is not very likely. If something were to go wrong I'd like to fix it myself, it's just the way I am. How much was the install for your 4" anyway.

You're going to take that enormously large and extremely heavy truck on the rubicon? Good luck.

Man I hope you have a good body shop if you aren't kidding about the Rubicon. That would be an idiot move if you aren't made of cash and enjoy breaking things. The truck is too wide, too long, not geared correctly, not locked, and has IFS... gotta be kidding. But hey, if you try it, more props to ya, just take some pics.

Why don't you just download the instructions from the fabtech website?

IFS, no lockers, too long and wide. I've heard it all, near stock H2's (yes I said H2's, much wider than us) are running the 'Con with minimal problems, minus the gatekeeper. There are several that run the Moab as well. I am not absolutely sure about taking the trip because I know of the risk, and I don't have full coverage. But if there is a local group going, I will go. I, of course, will document the entire thing. I am heading out to Hollister Hills soon and I'll take pics of that. Hopefully right after I've lifted. It's not unheard of to see a full-size on the rubi. I won't be doing the entire trail anyways, I'll be turning off before Buck Isle lake more than likely. There are bypasses for obstacles like the little sluice (boulders were thrown in there the last few years making it nearly impassible by anything other than a highly modded vehicle). The Rubicon is definitely a rated trail but it's not impassible, nor is heavy damage that likely.

Have fun out there!
I thought it was this thread I posted that information, but yes, I was trying to get in contact with the supplier before they shipped my order. The reason being I wanted to replace my 20's with 18's and mud grapps that will fit the new 18's. I am having trouble getting a hold of them, nothing is open on the weekends! I want to be able to mount my 18's on the mud grapps when I hit the trails, unless someone offers me a price for them. I don't think many will be interested as I have some rust on the very inside of one of the wheels. The rest of the wheels look new but some have some scratches from wheelin. Like I said, I don't think they'll sell, so yes, that was my plan, to use them for trail riding.

I did my lift all by my lonesome over a weekend. The rear is super easy but the front is a pain. My biggest problem was getting the springs onto the new shocks. I had some spring compressors but they didn't cut it. I took it into my Ford dealership and a nice tech swapped the springs over for me. They had a neat wall mounted spring compressing unit that worked very well. Other than that everything else went very smoothly.

I read the fabtech instructions because I may tackle it myself. It's seems pretty much bolt on. You have to do a little cutting but a wheel would do the trick. As long as there is no welding, I can do it.

Go for it!! Post your results.
