The main question is, what is the main purpose of your truck.

Normal driving: No gauges (unless you think gauges have a "cool" factor)

Power adder: AFR + FRP

Towing: EGT + TFT

etc ...

Vacuum gauge and tranny temp gauge for basic use.

The vacuum gauge will help you watch your mileage and can be used as a diagnostic tool. The trans temp is handy if you tow or load the truck.

Of course whatever you want is your call. I use a Scangage which I wish they made in a gauge format.
There is a competitor that makes one that has lots of info in a gauge configuration but it is quite expensive. Don't remember the link, sory.

Oops-

Yea I meant to add that I never tow, I just cruise around town, to and fro work, with the lead foot from time to time of course. I have a tuner, air intake, and exhaust. This would be mainly for a "cool" factor, I just saw there were so many options, I dont know what to pick...

I've got an Edge Evolution and it has an lcd screen that has 4 different selections. Here is what I run:

MPH - the dash is always off a little bit

Transmission Fluid Temp - Do a little towing

Engine Colant Temp - this way I know when I can turn the heat on in the winter

Engine Oil Temp - do a little towing plus to make sure its not running hot.

I would choose Trans Temp. and a real oil pressure gauge. The one in the dash is not a true pressure gauge, it just shows the presence of oil pressure or the lack of it!

If it's for the bling factor, get matched gauges. A vacuum gauge/boost meter has lots of motion.
You would want something that moves and reacts. An oil gauge while a good working tool, will not show any activity under most conditions.
You want something that shows lots of change.

A pair of digital gauges might be a nice look.

Oil pressure and water temp. The factory voltage gauge is okay, and besides, you won't really do any damage running around on an undercharging or overcharging alternator, as long as you don't do it for too long. Oil pressure, on the other hand, by the time the light comes on and the needle falls on the factory guage, the damage is probably already done. Likewise with the factory coolant temp gauge.

Well thats simply the point, only have an AFR if you are using a power adder; you dont want to see lean as most gauges have built in warnings now too.

Stay away from standard A:F meters period. They suck at best. The only purpose they serve is as a pretty little light show. I've compared one to a true Wideband O2 (which I still own) and the difference is night & day.

Since I'm having the Roush blower installed, I want a vacuum/boost gauge installed somewhere in my truck. I REALLY like the steering wheel mount that Autometer makes for the older trucks... It'll be hard getting used to that needle staying ~6psi though... I'm used to seeing it creep closer to 20 in my Mustang

If you spent a lot of your time towing, I think a transmission temp gauge would be a good investment. But given a choice of only two, I still think oil pressure and water temp are vital, especially given the accuracy (or lack thereof) of the factory pieces.
