Well I'm at the step of pulling the steering wheel after loosening the Torx bolt several turns.

I like to think of myself as being in pretty good shape but I can't seem to pull this steering wheel loose.

I mean I'm pulling this really hard in a smooth motion and not wiggeling and I still can't seem to get it off.

Any hints here fellas?

Duke

How in the heck do you use an impact wrench? Have you really done this before?

I've loosened the center torx bolt all the way out and still pulled and couldn't get the steering wheel off.

This is a pain in the **** because I don't want to have to put everything together and take it some place with a steering wheel puller and get charged for doing something easy.

A 'rental' steering wheel puller is usually free from almost any autoparts place. or you can fabricate one if you have a flat piece of steel and some bolts.
You can also use a three prong puller or a harmonic puller. If you have neighbors with tool boxes in their garage they can probably lend you a puller.
Spending the ten bucks to buy one is seldom needed.

I believe all the guys that post about 'just yanking the wheel off' but all three times I pulled the one on my truck, I needed a puller.

And the others I pulled I also needed a puller.

Since it is down with roughly one hundred pounds of force I suspect that to pull one off you better be able to bench 125-175 lbs.

And yanking a wheel off by the 'rim' is not a good way to keep it straight. They do bend if you apply too much force.
So just get a puller. Rent, build, borrow or if all else fails buy one.

For ten times the unit you need for 10.99.

Well I feel like a wuse! I can't believe it. I'm 6 foot 200 lbs and still can't pull this thing off.

I guess I'll have to put it back together, bring my tools with me and go to the autoparts store tomorrow and ask if they have a rental or borrow one.

I don't have any steel or bolts. I guess I'll keep trying a few more times.

Well I max 275 on the flat bench and I still can't get this thing and I work out on average 3 to 4 times a week.

You wussy.

If you had the ULTIMATE TRUCK ACCESSORY, you'd already have that thing off and replaced...

I bet you don't have a clue where that link goes do you?... LMAO!

In all seroiusness... I know the AutoZones or Advanced (can't remember which) have that 'loan a tool' thing where they'll basically let you borrow something like that... Not sure if they'd have something similar but, it'd be worth a check... you panty waste... LMAO!

LOL, you're a jerk who is absolutely no help!

I needed the humor as I've been plagued with truck problems lately, read my "weak moment" thread and you'll know what I'm talking about.

I went to Checkers and the guy let me buy the steering wheel puller which he said I can return tomorrow after using it. He was a really nice guy.

But I have NO IDEA how to use this steering wheel puller. It has very vauge directions.

It says to use two bolts to match up with hole but the only holes I see are on the outsides. I guess thats it and the huge rod bolt goes in the middle where the torx bolt was?

Any hints here fellas?

Start the bolt back into the steering shaft two or three turns.

Now, bribe a friend with a cold beer. Pull on the wheel all you're worth, then get said friend to use a punch and a hammer and whack the center of the torx bolt/steering shaft while you're pulling. Don't get carried away here, the idea is to cause some vibration to help break the taper of the steering shaft.

Good lord man! Never pull a wheel off without a puller or at least leaving the center bolt or nut on. If you are pulling on it by hand using a lot of force and it comes loose it will VIOLENTLY fly backwards and you will slam it in your face. I know a goon who broke his nose pulling a wheel by hand. A puller can be bought cheap or borrowed from Azone for free. A true auto technician would never do anything so foolish as to not use a puller or at least leave the nut or bolt threaded on a few turns.I think stealth did say he left the nut on, I just want to make sure any newbies dont try it without precaution

I didn't say I was going to do some assclown steering wheel jerk routine like Lou Ferrigno. I keep my arms locked, my nose isn't that long.

Well I have a steering wheel puller from checker auto parts.

I just can't seem to figure it out.

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...tnumber=648464

Kind of like this one made by powerbuilt, but the ends on my large silver metal piece are open?

Which holes on the steering wheel do the bolts go into? I would think the largest open ones on the left and right but can't seem to find a bolt that would fit through there or even how it would since they're at an angle.

That's an old school puller, intended for use on steering wheels that had threaded holes in them from the factory for those bolts to go in to. You need a jaw type puller to rip this wheel off, although I don't think you're holding your mouth right - I've never had to use a puller to get a steering wheel off.
