Reflashed!

Well, after 20,000 miles of a semi-sleepy beast under me, I finally got it into the shop and asked for a pc update. My truck has a fairly recent build date, October 2004 I think, so I didn't figure it would make much difference. I know this subject's been beat to death but I figured I throw my experience up here fyi.

The truck was a bit sluggish, gear shifts were a little slow and it seemed to miss a step when passing.

I can't say I noticed a drastic improvement but I did chirp the tires as I left the dealer and I didn't even try to.

The shifts are precise now and it feels more punchy. I'm no techno mechanic so I can only tell you how it changed in laymans terms. It now drives like it should, big and heavy but powerful. You know it when you step on it and it actually moves instead of making a bunch of noise as it did before. I got some bite to go with the bark.

Defintely better, but it's still a beast.

I never would have know to do this with out this site. I'm thankful for the info. Next step is having that shudder in the rear worked on. The dealer knows about it and said to see if the pc update helps. I'll have to give it a few more days.

The effects don't wear off, your truck just re-learns your driving patterns. If it you always drive it like you stole it then that's how it'll act, but if you baby it then it'll take it easy.

My build date was like May 5th? 2005 and it really didnt have a hesitation or anything. The other day my mechanic told me there have been a few updates in power and everything since then so we reflashed it. I didnt think it would change much but to my suprise it feels like it has 295 horsepower now haha. The other 5 is still lost. But a much better feel to it. Shifts quicker and firmer. Very happy with getting it done.

I got the PCM reflash before buying my Programmer and I have to agree I did feel a difference in my truck which is a heavy a$$ S.O.B. although I knew it when I bought my truck that I wasnt buying it for speed. My superchip tuner did waken the truck up even more and have been pretty happy with my mods so far.

My truck still is a big pig and I am afraid will always be just that, I have no illusions of barking my tires minus a Supercharger!

Thanks for the info. My truck has already learned some of my habits and a bit of the edge the truck had from the dealership reflash and has already softened a bit. I drive like a turtle and I guess my truck has found it's level of compliance with my light foot. Maybe I'll have to step on it a bit more.

Da*n the gas mileage.

Does anyone know, or can you guys remember, after you got your reflash, was your tripmeter reset back to zero miles just like if you disconnect your battery and it resets? I had my truck in for service last week and I told them to reflash my pcm (to fix a rough idle), and they said they did, but I'm thinking they didn't. My work order sheet didn't show it and my tripmeter wasn't reset...

Fords "tool" does not reset the trip meter: It keeps it.
