I have heard synthetic this and that and i just want to know what yall use or if you could use what would you use?

I would always continue whit what had been used. I am from the old school that says you do not change the viscosity and not even the brand, if possible. I use the 5-20 Motorcraft.

I use Motorcraft 5W-20 oil and FL-820S filters on all of my Ford vehicles except my trusty old 1997 Ranger. This is really a hard combination to beat -- the products are reasonably priced, readily available at your local stores, and work exceedingly well!

Certain guys will come on here and try to sell you on mail-order and/or "boutique" oils and filters, but the reality is that the performance gains on these products rarely, if ever, justify the increased cost and/or the "PIA" factor involved in acquiring the products.

Good luck with your truck!

Ditto that...Motorcraft all the way. Our 2003 Escape gets 5.5 qts. of it and my '99 gets 6 qts. of 5w-30. Lucky me, they all take FL820s too!

While someone will post suggesting you use anything from 40 weights reclaim to 20 buck quart platinum oil, you won't go wrong with the factory recommended oil.
It is a synthetic blend, very high quality.
On filters the Motorcraft (made by Purelator this year according to websites) is good. The K&N and Mobile 1 filter (both made by Champion, the folks that make the filter on the engine when the truck is shipped) are the best but way over priced.
The low end Fram has had a lot of folks unhappy as the anti-drainback valve seems inferior.

sorry but I love that smiley! Well you are going to get a million different opinions on this topic. Here's my take...I use Mobil 1 5w20 and FL-820S filter and have since my truck was new. I change it every 3000 miles because it makes me feel better. An incident last week really made me feel better about it. I had my left bank cam phaser changed at 22k miles. When the tech removed the valve cover it was literally bright shiny silver on the inside...ditto for the top of the head. I mean it looked brand new, no brown dino oil film on anything. The next day the same tech did another phaser on another 05 bought new from us and now with 25k miles. Service history showed 3k mile oil changes with Motorcraft 5w20 in our shop and his valve cover and head were covered in brown crud!!! Nothing but Mobil 1 for me now for sure! Sorry for the long post.

I am using Royal Purple (expensive but supposed to be the best) 5w-30 I believe, and a K&N oil filter.

Ditto.

I get the Motocraft 5 quart jugs, cases of single bottles and oil filters at WalMart for a very good price.

You may be tempted to put more than the 7 quarts in there, because it will show low on the stick.....but don't do it.

7 quarts, and only 7.

That's why I buy the single bottles with the big jugs. 1-5 quart jug and 2-1 quart bottles per change.

Get a Fumoto drain valve and you don't even need tools, or a jack.

Either you're not changing the filter or have a very strong grip!

Here's another forum dedicated to Fluid Power, Lubrication, Hydraulics, and Oil Analysis. There are some people here who routinely debate oil types, additives, etc.
