I did some searching and I think you may be talking about the PIE unit. That is not the iPod2Car adapter. The iPod adapter is far cooler than the PIe unit if only wish to use an iPod. and it's not on the market yet for the 04+ F150.

These are similiar to the ones I have, only I have the 3-ways... I was debating between the 3-ways & 4-ways, so I went down to Circuit City and listened to them both. For my ears, the 4-ways provided too much high end sound. The 3-ways just seemed more balanced between highs/mids/lows.

Get them HERE much cheaper.

I have the TS-A6870R 3-ways like them in my back doors and they are very decent speakers....great fillers for the back.

I have Alpine SPS-571A 6x8 Component Speakers in the front. The componets sound much better than the coaxial speakers and are the best way to go up front.

Check out my gallery for more pics and info on my system.

I recently installed an Alpine 9851 mp3/cd player ($250), 4 Blaupunkt TS573 speakers ($30/pr), and a PAC-Audio SWI-ALP steering wheel control module. I bought everything at Crutchfield because of an extra $25 discount I had and they include all extra hookup stuff for your vehicle. I also bought the speaker baffles to increase the bass response and it seems to be pretty good. I don't really listen to anything with alot of thump anymore but I tested a few things and it definitely bumps enough for me. The fact that I could still keep my steering wheel controls and not have to deal with a remote LED installation was a killer bonus!

Pasted below is what I found doing a quick search for Crutchfield coupon in Google:

Amount Exp. Coupon Code / Link
$50 off $250 ??? PA440

Free 2-3 Day
Shipping w/ $50 ??? PA145

Free Shipping ??? PA145

$20 off $100 None PA166

I'm a little new to all this do-it-yourself audio stuff.
If I wanted to run component speakers in the front, are the speaker and the tweeter connected by a wire or something that I would just have to run up the door panel? Or do I have to splice wires and run new ones and crap?

I guess the question is is the tweeter actually and independent speaker, or is it pre-wired to the 6x8 with a crossover or something? Allowing me to just conncet the whole componant set-up to the one factory connector in my truck.
Does that make any sense?

A tweeter is a separate speaker attached to a crossover(99.9% of the time) cheapy ones in walmart really don't "need" a crossover...One the crossover of any compnent system there is an input and two outputs. one is for your tweeter and the other for the woofer. In my truck I have Alpine type s components in the front with type s coaxials in the rear. Sounds fantastic. I have a alpine cda-9855 HU which is really nice.

The speakers were installed by myself cutting nothing from the factory wiring harnesses. A component system requires running wirings yes but how much depends on where you want to put the crossovers. I put my crossovers in my doors. I did have to run wires to the door through the factory wire harness boot. It was worth doing it this way because of such a clean install. tweeters are mounted on top of my dash angled toward driver and passenger.

as far as speakers that you should think about getting...I'm not going to tell u what ones to get or tell you ones not to get. All i can do is give you my opinion on the ones I like and don't. I stay away from sony or pioneer, those brands that make a lot of products for a lot of different electronics. Alpine, infinity, polk..etc. that specialize in speakers is the way I like to go. I had infinity's in my old truck. great sound awesome performance. loud and clean sound but decided to go with alpine this time trying to match components like HU and speakers. hope your speaker search goes well

So if your just replacing the front speakers all you have to do is run a wire from the 6x8 to the twitter thats it? And hook up the factory wiring to the 6x8? Can some one tell me how much the Alpine Component speakers cost.

if you r just going to replace the front speakers with a component system there will be a crossover. you have to connect the factory speaker wire to the input on the crossover. The woofer output to woofer and tweeter output to tweeter. check out crutchfield for prices...alpine speakers range from 50 to 500 bucks...

New question?

Those of you who have replaced you speakers but kept the factory HU, how does it sound?

And what about those who just replaced the HU? The factory speakers sound better? That's been my experience with previous vehicles.

I'm trying to figure out my plan of attack for my trucks sound sysyem.

If you plan on keeping your factory HU and replacing your speakers they will work but not to their full potential. I had my factory HU in just to listen to what my speakers sounded like and they sounded good. Keep in mind the factory HU only puts out like 8 watts or so per channel compared to 18 watts like my alpine HU.

Now as for replacing HU with stock speakers. They again will work but I came into having a noise coming from the speakers because they couldn't handle to amount of power they were getting. That was not on my 04 truck it was on my '98 150. my opinion is to do both but you may do what you feel is good for you. The sound will be cleaner, more crisp if you do both.
