Today's stupid question: about consoles

What aspect of the console makes it "flow through". I've only seen the one in my Screw, so it's hard to guess as to what the other ones look like.

A flow-through console has the console shifter and goes all the way to the dash.

Also it has heat/AC vents for the back seat, so the air "flows through".
