E-Fan Fuse BLEW up...literally.

Unbelievable. I have a hunch it was from mudding and water may have caused this, but it looks as if it could have caused a fire. Thought it was worth showing, I'm thanking my lucky stars for this. Any idea if anything else could have happened as a side effect from when this exploded, I hope my e-fans are ok.

Mountaineer, I don't know what your problem is, but ever since the thread about being pulled over, you were quoted as saying:

Blah blah blah. You sure do act your shoe size. I have done nothing to you and even responded to your questions (What is SOHC, and what is the difference between the SOHC and the 5.4L?) in the Saleen F150 thread. Grow up big guy, quit speaking down on people.

Hey Josiah...stop beating the hell out of that truck

Just kidden bro...just take a look at the rest of the wires in that harness. As long as there not burnt further down the run , away from the fuse, Im guessing you should be fine. The fuse did its job...sorta...It shouldnt have exploded like that. I would fix it up and keep an eye on it. Maybe run it in the driveway for a bit to see if that fuse is getting real hot after a period of time. You may have a problem somewhere else.

But as you said, if you went off roading and got it all wet and nasty, that may have caused it.

Here is what happened......judging by the green on those connectors, the water sat in there long enough to corrode the connection. This corrosion became resistance between the fuse and the contacts. This resistance became heat as the current flows through it. The heat melts the connector and wallah, you have what you show in the pictures. I see this stuff all the time at work. I guess just cut that biotch off and put something water tight in its place. Glad it didn't catch fire!!

I don't want to start any crap, but if I recall from one of your pictures of your install the wires looked as if someone threw spaghetti underneath your hood. I'm not sure if you cleaned it up or not, but maybe your problem wasn't so much the fact that water gets under the hood as it was a sloppy wiring job.

Some folks put a "FORDING" cut off switch in the main power line to the fans to cut the power to them when there is any chance of them getting drowned, like when fording a stream while out mudding about. Just don't forget to turn them back on.

I cleaned it up shortly after those pics were taken, I was still trying to get them to work right at the time of those pics.

Brew, I hear ya, it becomes a muddy mess under the hood with that fan shroud out of the way now (you must do this to install the e-fans). The mud just gets everywhere with the gap going right to the ground.

Well since you have to put a new fuse holder and all in there, you should look into a marine grade one. Nice and water tight. Should keep it from happening again. Just run down to West Marine or would it be called East Marine on that side of the world...
