factory speakers replacement

I have a 2006 stx supercab and i was wondering what speakers would someone recommend replacing the factory ones with? I am trying to decide between 5.25 component in front doors or 6x8/5x7, and im thinking 6x8/5x7 in the back doors. any advice would be appreciated. My hu is a jvc dv-5100..i was thinking about the indash lcd mod like the one guy has but i don't know about cutting the trim may wait on that,,,,anyway thanks

i've had personal experience with pioneer both in my F-150 and a ranger and i had now problems.. i will say this though whatever speaker you get make sure its a 4way it produces the best sound in the upper frequency's
the 6"x8" is the factory size for your speakers there should be 1 in each door.. or atleast there are in my SCAB Xlt..

I replaced my front speakers with a pair of Pioneer 3-ways, 5x7/6x8, perfect fit. I chose not to go with the 4-ways because the 'highs' were too 'high', and it drowned out what little base they produce. I'm running the factory 6-disk hu. It sounds decent for an inexpensive system. But nothing compared to my previous Alpine component & sub setup...

You were on the right track man. I put 5.25" components in the front and mounted the tweeters even higher then the stock locations. Then i put 3-way 6"x9"'s in the back doors....which is a bit of an undertaking. 6"x8" would probably be close. Up front i left my tweeters on the wires and experimented for a week of driving around and finally settled on the door by the window defroster. Sounds much clearer then the stock tweeter location.

Back it all up with an 8" sub, amps and an alpine head and about a hundered hours of tweaking.....and you are sitting pretty.

I went with MB Quart 6x8's in the front doors and some Boston Acoustic 5 1/4" in the rear doors. I put two 10" Subwoofers under the back seat, it sounds great!

i've got alpine s 6x8 component system in the front and alpine type s 6x8 in the rear. Sound is great out of these speakers would recommend them to anyone. I have an alpine cdx-9855 HU. Thing is awesome esp. mp3 capability.

thats most likely what i'll do too thanks everyone for your input...by the way do the sub boxes that fit under the supercab seat...do they fit pretty good as far as not eating up leg room back there? i was going to put my two 10' s in a box that fits supposedly if you relocate the jack...wondering if anyone had pics of a sub setup similar..thanks again for the input everyone much appreciated

I'm not sure about 04-06 F150s but I previously owned a 98 with Q-Logic custom fit 8'' sub boxes and they took up no room other than under the rear bench seat. They also sounded great. I would like to put a box under my 04 screw back seats but probably will not go ahead with it.

How did you get those 6X9's in the rear doors?

Well it originally was going to be a simple task of cutting the hole bigger and dropping it in....until i realized the rear window was going to come down on the magnet.....At that point i cut a series of linoleum rings (for sealing) and spaced the speaker off the sheet metal about a half inch. Luckily i didn't have to cut the metal. Then I had to create some "studs" with bolts to mount the speaker. The door trim is a little tight, but there is no cone interference.

As for the subwoofer, i made a custom box with an 8" and it thumps okay, but a 10" would be nice. I would think anything larger then 8" is going to start cutting into the back seat heel room.

In my front doors I had 6.5" Oz Audio components installed. I watched the audio shop do it, and it was a tight fit. In my rear doors I just had the factory 5" x 7" speakers replaced with a set of 5" x 7" Oz Audios. With an Alpine MRV-345 pushing them (rated at 75w, but actual spec sheet was 103w into 4 channels @ 4 ohms) the things SCREAM!
