Transfer case knob/rod removal (finally)
Transfer case ****/rod removal (finally)
Well I installed my one piece vinyl floormat today, looking back I wish the XLT came from the factory with it installed.
I do have an answer for anyone trying to remove their transfer case shift ****, IT DOESN'T COME OFF!!!!!!
The rod and shifter **** are one piece, and a single bolt removes the shifter handle and mini-console after you've released the console from the floor of the truck.
The bolt is removed from UNDER the truck and then the shifter rod, console, and **** are all pulled out together. Then the rod cane be removed from the console.
You'll need a 10mm wrench or better yet a 1/4" drive socket wrench with a 10mm socket. Getting the bolt out is easy, getting it back in takes some patience.
I went to three dealers in Dearborn, Mi this morning and believe it or not the local Lincoln Mercury dealership was the most helpful.
Hope this helps anyone trying to get that **** off.

Floor mat
The floor mat I installed on my extended cab I purchased with the truck when I took delivery, it took about three weeks to come in. It was a one piece vinyl mat with sound deadener and insulation on the back. It was shipped in a box about 4' x 5', and is not all wadded up like I expected. You don't have to allow time for it to relax, it's pretty much ready to go out of the box. The whole piece looks like it's die cut from the supplier.
This mat is just like the standard mat in the XL package truck. It has the simulated diamond pattern under all the foot surfaces in the interior. The mat cost approx. $220 direct from the dealer. The part number I have for the extended cab mat is #4L3Z-1813010-HAA
I'm glad I decided to install it, it gives the interior more of a truck look and I don't have to worry about vacuuming dog hair and mud out when I hunt or fish.

Holes in floormat
All the holes I needed for my XLT 4x4 with manual transfer case, and 40/20/40 front seat were already there. The only modification I made to the mat was to open the holes up just a little where the jack and tools mount under the backseat, that was it.
All in all the swap went exceptionally easy.
