Daystar knocking after Install HELP!

I just had a daystar leveling kit installed on my truck today and love the look, but now have a serious problem. Every time I hit a bump in the road, and especially off-road, a loud knocking sound comes from the front suspension. I decided to try to simulate the sound at home by jumping on the front bumper. It worked! I then isolated the sound and believe its coming from the joint in the upper A-arm where the spindle comes in. I called the tech who installed the kit, and he told me the others he had installed did not make any noise and to bring the truck back to him. I hope this problem gets resolved cause I am starting to wish I had not installed the kit. The other things I have noticed are, the change in front tire camber, along with a weird sensation while hitting the brakes hard from low speeds, it seems as if the hood dives down and pops back up while of course making the above knocking sound. Any advice would be great, this needs to be resolved, or the leveling kit is coming off.

I'm getting ready to install my daystar any day now. From all the things I have read, the only thing I can think of is to re-tighten the 3 bolts on top of the strut tower. I've read of others having the same problem as you and this fixed it for them. Good luck, and let me know how it turns out.

Ditto to Thumper's question, because an alignment is mandatory.

Mine did the same thing. It was the strut nut in the center of the coil over. It's easy to tighten once everything is together. Don't forget to check the torque on everything after about 500 miles.

Good luck

after my install of autospring, i waited about 2 days then took it in.. my s$@# was all off.. they corrected it... ..then i got the bumper.. so i waited about a week .. i took it back in for the "re-look".. or them to check it again for free... they said everything was already aligned perfect.. but mine drives like it came off the showroom like this.. i've had no rubbing, or noises from mine, i even flex the suspention at my property everyweekend....

id run it back up to the shop and have him look it over again.. re-tighten everything. good luck man!

chris..

some people just have all the luck

Thanks guys... it was the center nut on top of the strut. Tightened it up and everything is cool. I just got back from his shop, and I am going to go over the other bolts and nuts to make sure there tight as a German virgin (goudintight). I don’t have the torques for all the nuts but I am just going to make sure everything feels right. I am an aircraft technician and just did not have the tools at home to mess with the lift b/c there all at work, but now I wish I had done the job myself. Thank god it didn’t cost to much or I would have been mad... $305 after tax, not to bad.. Next are tires (nitto terra grapplers 295 70 17) and a re-alignment. Thanks again

Verado,

If you haven't already isolated the clunk in your front end. Try checking the sway bar end links that attach to the lower control arms.It is the usual culprit for clunking noises after installing lift or leveling kits. The ends are of the ball and socket type like a tie rod end and unless completely seated and tight will rattle and clunk with every bump in the road. Other members of this Forum have found this problem with there leveling kit install as well.It is easily overlooked (been there done that)
A nylock nut is used and like a ball joint or tie rod end unless the taper shaft is seated the shaft will just spin and not tighten completely. Hence, the maddening CLUNK. Hope you solve the problem!!!
