Which one of the F-150's do you think has a smoother ride. I've driven a couple of trucks in the past few years and my 05 FX4 seems to be the roughest. Does the XLT ride any different than the FX4. I know I have off road shocks and heavier leaf springs, but would that make that big of a difference.

There wasn't much of a difference between the FX4 and the XLT (at least not from what I could feel).

The biggest difference is adding a 6" lift with 35s. It feels like you're driving on a cushion of air compared to the stock setup.

Of course, I've only driven it that way for a total of 35 minutes before it had to be towed back to the shop, so my experience might be skewed slightly by the newness of the lift...

 

I drove a Lariat Screw then my FX4 screw and didn't feel a bit of difference.


I did enjoy not puking looking at the crap woodgrain interior when I got in the FX4

 

Hmm, thats funny the FX4 I drove felt like a wooden carriage.

 

I'm on my 3rd and this is the smoothest one I've had. People who ride in it always comment about how smooth my Lariat rides. They love my woodgrain too

 

Chicks dig the woodgrain and the ride is smoother in the Lariat....

Don't want to get into this battle again, but the cabon fiber in the FX4 is just as fake as the wood in the Lariat is.

 

Like they say, opinions are like a$$holes...everybody has one.

But I have to say both look way better than the plain black plastic in the XLTs and STXs.

Back to the question at hand, my FX4 felt rougher stock then my dads Lariat. My FX4 has a much smoother ride than his lariat now since I've added the Roush 4X4 suspension package though.

 

biggest regret i have is not getting the lariat ! i love my fx4 but the lariat is so luxurious and refined compared to mine, i also am a big fan of the wood ! its nice compared to mine but still looks tacky compared to the interior of my dads escalade ! The lariat also just looks more expensive were the fx4 doesn't and also in my opnion the lariat is more comfortable ! o i wish i had a lariat

 

It certainly is a personal preference whether you like woodgrain or not - I liked the look enough that I added matching woodgrain steering wheel inserts. I think the woodgrain sets the black interior off. Here's a pic...(bad lighting- but you get the drift)

I would account the majority of your ride quality to shocks. I drove all three trims of SCREW's (XLT, Lariat, FX4) and they all felt the same to me on the same roads. After replacing the factory shocks to the Rancho's on my XLT, it now rides like a "Caddy" compared to what it was. Great shocks make a great ride in most cases.
