Cruise Control not working....

a buddy of mine is driving back home from Christmas, he said his cruise control doesnt seem to be working at all

a couple days ago it was on and off...it would just shut off with no warning

he has a 2004 SuperCrew Lariat 5.4L....and is out of warranty...any information i could pass on to him would be great!

Happy Holidays!

Check for trouble codes, if none, suspect the switches on the wheel, as that is the entire cruise on the new body trucks. The switches send a signal, the PCM does the rest of the work.

Check fuses? I'm guessing there is a fuse for the cc.

A bad fuse would be bad. It would not work/not work then not work. It would not work, period.

Assuming no one hase a tuner/scangage etc. You can go to most chain autoparts stores and they can read, usually for free, and clear codes.
You write down the code and post it if you get one.

The cruise control will go off if the parking brake is engaged. Check the switch for the parking brake, perhaps disconnect it and see if the problem goes away.

Dang, forgot about that one.
Also, be sure the brake lights are not coming on. A bad brakelight switch has caused a lot of cruise controls to be needlessly replaced.

Check fuses 14 and 16 in the central junction box, they're both 10A. Be sure that the brake lamps work, and that the parking brake indicator is working.
