Check Engine light on
Check Engine light on
My check engine light has come on twice on my 04 FX4. First time I took it in they said it was the mass air flow sensor and that my Airaid Intake was the problem. I took it in again yesterday and they said that the computer wasn't able to read the error correctly due to my intake. So now they are requesting I take the intake off and putting the original back on so that they can properly test the system. Has anyone with the AIRAID kit ever encountered this problem and what solutions do anyone recommend? Could I have installed the kit wrong? Any advise greatly appreciated.
Haven't heard many problems about the Airaid except for over 1.5 years ago when the initial tube came out and caused CEL's. A new tube design solved that problem. Are you sure you have the tube seated firmly down on the throttle body? If you don't make a good seal, that can throw a CEL.
I doubt that you installed the kit improperly.
Not that I can verify this, but I've heard that our F150s can be rather tempermental when it comes to even non-invasive power mods.
If it is not too difficult or time consuming, I'd probably go ahead and put her back to stock to see what happens...

I would check for proper fitment at where the airraid meets the throttle body. Also check for any other air leaks on the intake, make sure the MAF sensor is in properly. I have never had a CEL with my airaid. Make sure you didn't damage the MAF sensor when you relocated it, or got it dirty.
As for the intake causing your dealer not to be able to read codes is flat out a load of crap. They can still read the codes, if its a MAF code of some sort, they will read that and THEN probably tell you your airaid is the problem, in which case it must be an install problem. I would check everything yourself first again, then take it to a different dealer. Some dealers are afraid of aftermarkets parts and will not work with you when you do have problem. I have been lucky, the dealers around here are decent for the most part, they often mod many of their vehicle on their lots themselves, heck the general manager at my dealer actually runs the local Fast Ford club, so they understand the aftermarket.

Thanks
Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will re-trace my steps and check out the intake to make sure it is sitting right if not I will re-intall the original intake and take it back in.
You might want to check the MAF sensor to see if any oil residue has built up on it from the Airaid filter. You can clean it by spraying it with a good electronics cleaner, the kind which leaves no residue. I have heard of a couple of other people who had their MAF's get oily and it caused problems.
