As in the 'in-dash' read out that tells you MPG and has a timer? Define carputer.

Your current set up really doesn't matter as to the length of time for an install.

Removing that set up takes all of about 3 minutes -- literally.

If you have the proper wiring harnesses and such (which are included if you buy from Crutchfield -- and I have a code that can save you $20 -- just ask if you want it), my total install time was about 2 or 3 hours (I think that's about right)... that's running the Sirius antenna through the 3rd brake light up to the center console... mounting the sirius brain box... making the connections for power and ground... tapping the speed pulse wire... tapping power for the SWI-ECL box (this enables steering wheel controls to still be functional)... programming the SWI-ECL (pretty simple if you follow the instructions)... Grounding out the unit so that DVD will work while mobile... finish kit... mounting...

I spent copius hours preparing for my install so that I knew what wire was being tapped and where I was going to make the splices. Also, I had my harnesses spliced before I went to the truck so it was basically 'plug and play'.

I was thinking about making a carputer. Like something from this website:
http://www.mp3car.com

But, i was thinking it would suck booting the carputer. And leaving it on must drain the battery. I think the 5435 would boots up right away. right?

. . . it doesn't 'boot' up. Its a radio, it starts with the car just like any other radio system.

No.

But not an issue for me honestly... I rarely scrolled through a 6-disc set anyway.

With the MP3 functionality, who needs multi-disc?

If you want one eclipse makes one for this unit. you can see it on their website. What I think would be pretty cool is if they had a 6 DVD changer I dont know why that would be coll but it just would

Yep. They make a six-disc. If you're running Sirius and the six-disc, you'll plug the six-disc into the Sirius brain box... from there, it goes, via the Sirius data cable, to the HU.

RP.... I went skiing in the States last weekend, and had my 5435 guide me right into the parking lot..... but that's not the cool thing.

Cool thing is, in Canada (at least where I am) the voice guidance doesn't say the names of the freeways.... just, "turn right onto freeway entrance" (as an example).

When I got to the States it was saying the names... eg. I90, US 240 and saying North, South, etc...

That makes this unit even cooler.

I will add another nanner to this machine.
