And one more thing.
I have only the stock speakers (no audiophile) and this HU sounds 100 times better than the stock HU did and louder with next to no distortion.
It makes the speakers seem like they are actually good!

Did you notice that RP?

Mine sits flush, I just moved it back on the mounting brackets or something.....I don't really remember what I did. I rest my arm on the shifter or just use the remote! I have gotten pretty good with the remote and it is quite handy!

I'm still tooling around with the EQ settings but, I think I've convinced myself that it sounds better. At first I was skeptical.

Also, I toyed with the RDS again tonight on the way home from the orifice. No RDS on any of the channels that had it previously... I must have been imagining it... or was tuned in with Sirius... not sure. Doesn't seem to work here either.

How did you get it to mount flush?

That really stinks that you lose RDS. I know a lot of you guys don't use it, but I really seem to like it for some odd reason.

You're not the first to tell me that! Any guy who gets obsessed with painting every last piece of black plastic on his truck (even the antenna base), is a little carried away. Or spends $1,000 on custom HIDs, that get lost in the mail! Haha, at least we found them in Ohio though and are getting them to the installer. Installation just gets delayed another week, no big suprise.

Oh I'm still interested in finding out from Matt 05'FX4, how he got the unit flush!

The weakest part of any factory radio is always the head unit.

Damn you guys are making me want to use my credit card for this bad boy.

You would just move the "L" brackets more forward on the HU's mounting bolts. On the Metra 04 F150 kit there are plenty of holes and slots to choose from....even if you have to drill new ones.

For my F250 I had to drill and elongate 4 of the holes and use the left bracket on the right and the right on the left, and both backwards. You can pretty much do what you want with the kit... even put in a single DIN with a pocket.

Once you see it it will all make sense.

My opinion... Go out and buy an Eclipse, they are pretty F'in cool!
Especially the 5495 with the 20 gig hard drive.

If you like being risky, I got my 5435 on Ebay for $1245 shipped. Got it in 2 days.

Exactly. I was looking at it and was questioning myself why some were having problems getting theirs flush. I just put the plastic trim piece on and slid the radio back until it was even with the trim and tightened the bolts. With it flush, when the face slides down to pop a DVD in it will slightly rub on the upper edge of the radio and the trim when it kicks out but it is very little and shouldn't hurt anything.

Okay... Okay...

You all made me go out there and look at it...

Mine is now flush with the trim. I think it looks much better... pictures sometime after the holidays.

Searching around and found this thread and I have a quick question.

What is the difference betwwen the 5435 and the 5495 is it just more or less the hard drive? Also what purpose does this have, is it just so you can store songs on the hard drive or does it have to do with the GPS part of it. Can you store the GPS directions on it and not have to use the nav disk?

Don't mean to high jack the thread you guys just sound like you know what you are doing and have expercience with it.

Thanks

You can read up on them here

The HD would be handy because I've all ready run into the problem where I wanted the Nav/Guide on and other's wanted to watch a DVD. Can't do that with the 5435.
Loading MP3's from a memory stick would be handy also.

It would also be handy if the CD/MP3 functions had PAUSE, PLAY, and STOP buttons!!!! I can't believe a HU of this price range doesn't have these simple REQUIRED functions

Looks great RP! This definitely has to be my next mod. How far does it stick out from the dash exactly?

Also, I agree that Crutchfield is definitely a great company to deal with. They are located right down the road from me, so I might get them to install mine so I can get the warranty.

Mine doesn't stick out any longer. I had to finangle the mounting brackets but, after a little tweaking, it's flush.

You could, if wanted, have it stick out as far as you like though. I have to admit though, I like it flush better. Looks more stock.

Thanks for the kudos!

You know, I've NEVER noticed that.

Then again, I don't think I've utilized a pause or stop button in years and years... with the exception of with a DVD (and it does have pause/stop/play for that function).

I'll take a look at my wireless remote too... I think it has a pause/play button... although, I've never used it.
