I posted this in Head Units a while back and didn't get anything. After looking everywhere, I think I finally found the answer to my question. Can anyone verify that this is indeed how you put a CD-6 in shipping mode?

Here is how to do it:

1)make sure all the disks are REMOVED before starting

2)With power to the unit (i.e. best to do this before removing the stereo from the truck), hold down the #1 preset button and the scan button simultaneously. You should see the word "Shipment" appear on the display. It will then read "Shipment On" until you disconnect the power.

3) I'm not positive, but I think when you reconnect the power it comes out of Shipment Mode on its own.

Is this correct? I see a lot of units advertised on eBay in shipping mode, and don't want to rip anyone off since I'm selling my CD-6 on eBay.

What exactly is "shipment mode"? What is gained by it? Does it not allow the CD changer motor to turn or something?

The CD-6 changers actually have a locking mechanism that stops the magazine from becoming jarred out of place or messed up in any way during shipment. This is a way to prevent dead on arrival units that some of the members on this site have received. I wish I could find some kind of product manual for the Delphi CD-6 to find exactly how to enable this feature.

 

I can tell you from experience that I bought an Audiophile CD-6 unit from a fellow member here, and I didn't have any problems with the unit working. I later sold it on ebay and they guy who bought didn't have any problems. and I didn't know of any type of shipping mode for these new head unit changers.

From what I heard, you can ship these newer radios with no problems. It was the older units from a few years ago that you had to use the shipping bracket in them during shipment.

 

Yeah, I had no problems with my Audiophile from another user here, too. I just saw "shipping mode" in other auctions, so I figured I would try and find out what it is first.

 

For what it's worth, ship mode doesn't mean jack without the bracket that fits in the top of the radio to physically lock the radio's internals in place. I've got a few of these brackets at work, I'll snap a picture of one if I remember.

 

I'm thinking about buying an Audiophile HU and subwoofer. I was told today by Technicar that it cn't be installed--whle car would need rewired. I know that's not correct--BUT--is it a reasonable upgrade ? Are the wires in truch from factory? I've got 2006 FX4 with the CD/Siruius combo.

The Audiophile HU is a direct plug-and-play in every 2004+ truck. The subwoofer, however, is a totally different story. As you may know, the Audiophile HU has a female plug opening for the factory subwoofer. You should have the subwoofer plug behind your dash (most FX4's do), the next step to verify if the subwoofer connection is complete is to look under your backseat for a small L-shaped cut in the carpet (behind the drivers seat, under the rear bench, near the rear leg). If you have the connector in this L-shaped slit, you're golden....BUT if you are like me and have the harness behind the dash, but NOT under the rear seat, you are going to have to make your own (or have the audio shop make you one).

My question is....how do you take the radio out of ship mode??? I just won a 6 disk/MP3 radio in an ebay auction and was told that it would be shipped with the radio in "ship mode" to prevent damage. This was the extent of what that involved although I asked the seller to please include instructions of how to take it out of "ship mode" once I recieved it.

 

If a shipping bracket was installed, remove it before ever connecting the radio to the truck. Then, hook it up and it'll automatically come out of ship mode. Just be sure to remove any shipping brackets. When I bought my CD-6/MP3 off EBay, the seller didn't include a shipping bracket, so if you buy the radio, it may or may not have a shipping bracket.

 

Please do not take this the wrong way, but has anyone who is asking this question tried contacting their local service techs at a Ford dealer where they live? They may know right away. Just a thought if no one here is sure, unless it is a physical bracket and not a software/electronic lock. Good luck either way, the unit I bought off of eBay said nothing about the Ship mode, so I guess I was lucky.

 

Well I recieved my radio today...It didn't have any brackets on it and turned on when I plugged it in. But I cannot get the 6 disk changer to work. I can hear a motor or something running, but it will take a disk in and then spit it back out. When I first pushed the cd button, it said "initializing" but after trying to put a cd in and it not working it said "cd error"..I know the cd is good and is not a home made one. Any ideas or am I out $$$$.

Maybe that will reset your radio and the changer will start working???

 

Well, I tried running the diagnostic mode and the first time it said "cd pass" so I thought I was all set, but when I loaded a disk it spit it right back out and started acting funny again. I tried running the diagnostic and every time from then on it said "cd fail". So I'm kinda stumped...the radio appears to have never been used...still had the clear sticker covering the display. I called the local ford dealership to see if they repair oem radios, but the guy said they farm that out to somewhere near Detroit. So it looks like I'll look up some local stereo repair shops and hope I can get it fixed for a reasonable price.
