Topped out my truck Saturday, 133 mph

Yeah, so a freind of mine had a handheld GPS and we wanted to see just how much over 120 my truck would go on a long, lonesmome stretch by my house. I haven't done much to my truck, mods are:

2004 5.4 3.73 2wd
275/60/R17 Goodyear's
Superchips Tuner
Airraid
Magnaflow

Most of you probably know this, but you can hold the trip odometor button in and turn the key on and it goes into another mode. On this mode there is a digital speedometer. I'm sure most everybody knew that so...

With the needle at 100, the digital speedo on the truck was showing 98 mph and his GPS about 96.5 mph. So I tried it with the O/D off and it pulled well to 130, and at 133 mph according to the digital on the truck, the rev limiter kicked in at 5600 RPM. I never would have thought it would run that fast, I thought maybe 125 would catch it.

Anybody know if it would do any better with the O/D on? I didn't try it, because I figured it would just fall on its face, and once was enough for me. I don't make a habit of this, just wanted to try it.

Yeah...like I said, not a habit. They are Eagle GT II's, a little higher speed rated than stock. "T" rated maybe? I don't remember>

Why are you trying to kill yourself? Trouble at home? Seriously... do you know what a blow-out at 133 MPH in a 6000 pound truck might do? Especially the kind of blow out that is caused as a result of high speed? Anyhow, thanks for being the guinea pig.

this true on xlt models as well? and if you turn the truck off does it go back?.. if not. how do you manually set it back... . cool feature. i think i'd like this moreso than the miles driven!

thanks

do they make heads up display for these trucks?

Impressive, I wouldn't think going that fast for a short amount of time would cause damage. In fact, the tire rating service recommends not to do that for any sort of sustained amount of time, they say nothing about short acceleration bursts. I'm sure their numbers are quite reserved as to avoid law suits, so it probably wasn't as "dangerous" as some think, but there's no doubt it's somewhat risky. Regardless, you won't catch me going 133 when my XCal2 arrives.

For example, take a look at high speed chases, many people take their mostly stock vehicles over 110 in high speed chases. Just out of curiosity, are police vehicles engine's enhanced in any way and what are their speed limiters set at on crown vic's.

100% correct I have been 160+ on some S tires. It's all about the durration. Most manufactures, if im not mistaken, overrate by nearly 200% So a 100mph tire can in theroy do 200mph safely for a short amount of time. This is with the tire new and not worn down. As they age this percentage decreases.

Yes they are. They dont have speed limiters, or not any that i know of. I know fox body cars had higher rev limiters also.

Not sure on the new Crown Vic cop cars, but on the LS1 Camaros with the police package there were no mods to the drivetrain. There was no speed limiter and they came with Z rated tires; they were pretty much a standard Z28 with out any of the exterior badges.

Ha...yeah I don't recall saying it was a smart thing to do. Don't you ever wonder how fast your truck will go, though? I don't think it to be that far fetched to want to try it.

Oh wait a minute...you said I'm your guinea pig never mind.

No I just remember back when I had my '95 302 RC, that about 105 was a good day for it, so it's cool to have a truck that I know goes this fast. Handy info I guess. It'll be good coffe shop talk anyways. Most people won't beleive it.

So in other words...yes most sane people probably don't need to be doing this. I'm not going to try and make it sound like a safe practice. Just cool to know I've been 133 mph though.

In Crown Vics, no, they're not really "enhanced" in regards to power. They've got dual exhaust, like on a civvie Crown Vic with the performance package, and an oil cooler. That's about it.
